Draft - why we're struggling
If you want a reason why this team is struggling, it's because we just haven't gotten enough from our high draft picks the last two years.
Injuries have played a part, and some guys are projects, but in the NFL your top picks have got to contribute.
Look at the 6 1st/2nd rounders from the last two drafts:
2005
Rd 1 - #7 overall
Troy Williamson.
Not exactly giving us much right now.
Struggling to catch anything.
Benched on Sunday in favor of Billy McMullin.
Rd 1 - #18 overall
Erasmus James.
The bad: On IR.
The good: Has as many sacks as 2004's #1 pick (Udeze)
Rd 2 - #49 overall
Marcus Johnson.
Has stuggled at LG, RG, LT and RT.
Makes the T-E stunt look as hard to solve as the Rubik's cube.
2006
Rd 1 - #17 overall
Chad Greenway.
Blew out knee covering kick-off in preseason game.
Rd 2 - #48
Cedric Griffin.
Already beat out Fred Smoot.
Looks really good.
Rd 2 - #51
Ryan Cook.
Makes Johnson look like a steal.
Possibly the first ever 2nd round pick offensive lineman to be inactive for the first 5 games of the season.
Third sting behind (shudders) Marcus "I suck" Johnson and Mike "I really suck" Rosenthal.
Unbelievablly horrible pick.
Rd 2 - #64
Tavaris Jackson.
Obviously not contributing, he's the 3rd sting QB.
QB of the future for better or worse.
Re: Draft - why we're struggling
I think you might have a point here.
I am starting to feel like the lions.
Injuries have hurt though.
Re: Draft - why we're struggling
Damn dude, you're depressing me.
Although you do have a good point, I have a lot of faith in both Greenway and Jackson.
All those draft picks that suck were under the "roll the tice" era, and shouldn't even count.
All the pickups that Childress has made have been really good. Ex- Chester Taylor, Cedric Griffin, and hopefully Greenway and Jackson.
Keep the faith my brother.
Re: Draft - why we're struggling
Because someone will try to correct me...
Yes, I know
Chestor Taylor was a free agent signing.
Just making a point. Its a new era.
Re: Draft - why we're struggling
You forgot the time where we missed our entire draft pick a few years back
Re: Draft - why we're struggling
Believe me, i didn't forget.
I was living in Wisconsin (still am) with 5 packer fans watching the draft all together.

You watched the draft with Packer fans?
Sounds like a scene from Diliverance.
Re: Draft - why we're struggling
It kinda sucks that 3 of the past 4 1st round picks have all missed at almost a complete season due to injury.
Re: Draft - why we're struggling
Great Post, have to agree that the past drafts picks aren't worth poo.
I, however, have wiped the slate clean for B-chill and am only looking at the future.
couple of injuries this year, as you noted and a QB that wasn't expected to contribute kindof cloud the picture.
Additionally, not every pick works out.
Saw somewhere a stat for pics and percentage that actually make the team contribute.
Re: Draft - why we're struggling
you should have expanded it to the 3rd round in 2005...
where we picked Fox and then decided to cut him this year
