God, I hate "Dr. Z". I can't tell you how many times he has underestimated us on his picks and then we show that he is wrong.

His logic is always eccentric and odd.

On the other hand, I have a hard time saying he is full of manure, if he picks us to win it all... I do like the logic that Jarred Allen will give us decisive advantage. I actually believe that.

I just think that he forgets that we have a serious issue in our passing game. Does Dr. Z really think that we are better than, say the Colts ? or Pats ?

Does he really think we could hang with the Colts in a game that emphasizes passing, or with the Patriots ? (Sorry, but I don't think so). Give me a game in which both teams' defenses and running games are about equal, and we put Tarvaris Jackson up against Tom Brady or Peyton Manning. Does anyone on this site think we could hang with that ?

Don't be retarded.
Z picked the Giants to beat the Patriots, and he's also picked an entire playoff field and the eventual super bowl winners prior to the first game being played.
He's a far cry more accurate with his picks than most, but at the end of the day, upsets are upsets and you can't get them all right.

Minnesota has the ability to go all the way this year.
There are some very tough teams to face, and I honestly feel that the destiny of the team will rest in the throwing hand of Jackson.

Yeah...Baltimore did it with Boller last year. Giants were a running team, not a passing one. Giants fans were ready to send Ely packing before the playoffs. If you look at when the Colts lose, it always is to a team that runs over there defense. I don't recall the Colts ever losing a airial display, shoot em up shoot out. Peyton always wins those. The Colts can play the pass pretty fucking good. If you get in a pass only mode, Freeny and Mathis will own your QB.

I like the pick and all, but come on ... can you not spell Tarvaris correctly? After the first one (which S.I. spelled for him to give it the link) he keeps spelling it Tavaris. And Charlie Gordon hardly counts as a free agent pick up like he seems to be touting him as. He has been with us his entire career.
But whatever ... I hope Dr. Z is correct ... and I am starting to get the feeling he might be.

Has Dr. Z. Officially Hosed the Minnesota Vikings?

As has already been pointed out in the FanPosts, Sports Illustrated's Paul "Dr. Z." Zimmerman has made the Minnesota Vikings his obscenely early pick to win Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa this February.....

I don't think he believes the passing game is gonna be the type of issue you claim. Part of article was shedding light on the Tarvaris situation. He didn't go into much detail about the passing game in general but he understands we picked up Berrian who is a weapon. With Rice in his 2nd year and guys like Wade and Allison we a got a group of WR's that can get the job done. We've done well weeding out the parasites like Troy Williamson and Koren Robison. The WR group is leaps ahead of even where we were last year, based on new additions and years experience. Shancoe gets his fair share of blame but is evolving himself. Fans dislike the production to contract but I think as time goes on we will realize why Shancoe was paid the way he is. Our offense is very young, and was even younger last year. Cook, Tarvaris, Rice, Allison, Herrera, Shancoe, Peterson were all in there first years. I beleive fans will be shocked to see the production from year 1 to year 2 in the NFL. Years 3 and 4 should be even better as many of the current starters are tied up.

The Pats and Colts have great passing games but I would rather not have to rely on those things to win games, especailly the high powered down the field passing games. Our philosophy is to have quick twitch WR's that can get open and move the chains. Neither of those teams plan on being near as physical as we do. Thomas Topeh is a newly added brawler with speed and great blocking ability, an actual upgrade. Kliensasser is one of toughest TE's in the league and our Oline is big and physical. We plan on running that ball and using the short passing game with occasional plays downfield when the opportunity is there. Bottom line we don't want to be those others offenses. We want to run a ball control, grind it out offense while keeping our defense fresh.

A game that emphasizes on the pass is a game that we want to control. When it comes to the playoffs defense usually wins that battle and when you have a ball control offense you keep theres on the sideline. Then when Allen, Robison, and Edwards get on the field they are fresh and can provide the type of pressure needed to win Championships and Superbowls.

Comparing Tarvaris to Brady and Manning in order to determine a result is a poor decision. IMO it would wise to compare the teams as a whole. Its gonna take plenty from the guys aroung the QB, the defense and specail teams to beat good teams like the Colts and the Patriots. We are currently putting those peices in place at a fast pace. We don't exept "we can't do it" when guys are out there that we want. Plenty of the credit starts at the top and ends at the bottom of pyramid.

PS: I'm starting to want to play against good teams, very early this season we get that opportunity and I expect big things.

The guy did seem to be a bit confused I think he meant Benny Sapp if he's talking about a FA. IMO Charles Gordon is the man for the #3 spot and I hope they don't favor McCauly because of his draft position, though he does have expectations to fill. Gordon played good last year and looked night and day from year 1. I expect him to get better in his 3rd season and he definitly make the 53 man roster.
