While the offense was gelling and the defense was greatly improving, the downside was special teams. On both sides of the ball there is serious need for improvement. The mistackles on punt returns and kickoffs are allowing major yardage for the opposing teams to have excellent field position. And although the Vikes seem to be investing in David Allen as their returner, I think Nick Davis should have the job. While Allen drops many and returns few for little yardage, Davis has explosive returns and can dance his way for even more. Allen may have speed that I haven't seen yet, but Davis has proven that he can run. The Vikings just can't afford to have a poor special teams unit. In our rebuilding season, their strength will keep us out of the tight spots.
