Does anyone feel the media gives the Vikings no respect?

I have viewed a lot of television analyst predictions that are saying the Vikings will be 7-9 or 8-8 this season.
When I see our defensive starters I feel we are really solid.
Im sure our CB's will develop and our Safties leadership will overcome the hardships from last year.
Most of the media has GB will be second in our division and I say ... why?
Their offense lacks worse than ours and our Defense can match up to them anyday.. IMO.
We have had 2 years of great drafts and our defense against the run could be as good as last year.I know the blitzing of the QB will be improved with Robison and Edwards having breakout years.
TJack could become the next Donovan Mcnabb and our RB's can match up to any in the league.

Are we judged by our special teams or our lack of coaching or something?
Why are Detroit and 49ers getting their due for their improvments, and not us?Does the media judge the Vikings primarily on our QB situation?
Didnt the Ravens win a superbowl with little depth in that position?
I'd love your thoughts and thank you for reading my posts! KevinK

Most of the prognosticators are nothing more than guys hired to write articles that are entertaining and interesting to the masses.

In this case they are just going along with the national sentiment that we will not be very good based on alot of things but mostly the following:

    a.
    Relatively new ownership
    b.
    Relatively new coach and staff.
    c.
Relatively new QB as well as overall team
    d. Poor showing from previous year.

    AND most importantly

    e.
Bad reviews from local sports hacks.

Don't let it bother you my friend.
We of the purple faithfull know better (well at least some of us).
    ;D

    Oh yeah definitely!!!
You know who is the biggest idiot of them all, Rod Woodson of NFL network!!
Actually made the statement, "cant win in NFL without a good QB".
I have always heard the old cliches that "defense wins championships", well i also feel we will have a very good D, and our running game will be very strong, and of course our WR core will be greatly improved!!!
    Go Vikes!!!

The media bases their predictions on the previous season, stats, and projected starters. Not having many stats from last year, Tarvaris also being a second year guy was easy to pick on.
So much so that it overshadowed our defense and running game, both of which will be top 5 this year. All the so called experts will get theirs soon enough and will be running to jump on the Viking bandwagon. Where they will be served a generous portion of crow.

The day you put merit into the media's slant on any topic is the day you need to enroll in a critical thinking course.

    Just some examples of
2006 Predictions I have found. Many say the Saints would go 5-11. Once again, these guys have no idea what they are talking about. Don't read to heavily into it. Their job is to make predictions (ie- state exactly what happened the year before) without really using any independent thought from what everyone else is saying.

If I was continually wrong at my job, I'd be fired. Sports writer's
don't have to worry about that.

Re: Does anyone feel the media gives the Vikings no respect?

Well, I can certainly understand their sentiment.
The media (and most casual football fans) are going based on past performance.
We didn't really add any big-name, high-profile free agents (and no, Robert Ferguson doesn't count).
Our roster hasn't changed all that much from last year.
    Why should their expectations change?

To be sure, I have a more optimistic outlook for this season, but it's a more cautious, guarded optimism than in previous years. I don't think we'll be as good as the Bears, but I do think that a wild card berth is a very real possibility.
    My prediction: 9-7.
This year will serve as a springboard to next year, when we'll return a more polished team capable of contending for a title.
I'll be hoping and rooting for more, of course.

So, getting back to your original question: the media doesn't respect the Vikings because we haven't done anything to earn that respect...yet.
We'll get respect when we start winning games, and I have a feeling that we'll win quite a few more than the media expects us to.

The media is too busy kissing the Putzies, Colts, Cowturds, and assorted other asses to give the Vikings ANY respect...but it's like anything else...the Vikings will just have to go out and TAKE IT to get the respect that they want...just look at the Saints last season.
Heck, there are even a few media types that are picking the Saints to win the Super Bowl.
BANNED OR DEAD...I'LL TAKE EITHER ONE

Re: Does anyone feel the media gives the Vikings no respect?

As I replied in the yell,

For the most part, no, we don't get that much respect out there.
But I've seen a few who have open eyes and know the game better than others, and they do think we can and will be a force to reckon with.

I myself, see us going somewhere in the 9-7 to 10-6 range.........

We will be better than last year, and finish in front of the Pack.
wouldn't suprise me at all if we put the Bears in the back seat also.....
