Re: Do you think Sharper will make the Hall of Fame?

This seems like and odd thread to me. I think there is absolutely zero chance Sharper goes to the Hall of Fame. Barring some sort of highly memorable postseason performance at some point in the next year or so he will end his career as a very good player, but not really even on the Hall's radar.

He needs a superbowl I think.

I think he will probably at least make the first cut of players.
He's had more interceptions than anyone since he's came into the league, and was a big part of Green Bays success in the late 90's/00's.

In 10 years he's piled up 53 interceptions, or 5.3 per year.
To put that in perspective, in 16 years, Paul Krause piled up 81 interceptions, or 5.06 per season, actually less than Sharper.
He's a smart player, and a decent tackler too.
I think he wont get in his first year, but it won't be long after.

I think if there's anyone who will be a potential HOFer who's played for the vikings in the past 5 years, aside from moss, it would be Sharper.

If your interested, here's Krause's NFL.com page, and it even has a 5 min video about him to check out on the right.

    Sharpers:
    http://www.nfl.com/players/darrensharper/profile?id=SHA500479

By the way ... Sharper has played ELEVEN years so he only averages 4.8 INTs a year, which is less than Krause whom you compared him to.
Sharper has also never been considered a really good cover guy. I don't think a 4-time pro-bowler with no first-team all-pro appearances really qualifies for the Hall of Fame.

Very hard for me to like guys on the team that came from PUKER land no matter how good there are or what they do for the team.
    :'(
I doubt he would go in as a packer.
He didn't exactly leave them on good terms.
I think if he DOES go in, it would be for his accomplishments as a Packer (unless of course we win the SB this year ), but he will still go in as a Viking.
Not sure if it was mentioned elsewhere ... but players in the NFL do not really go in as a member of a team ... they just go in as a football player.

We have discussed this in great length in the past with other threads.

I have no clue why folks still say it though.

The coverage thing is a legitimate point, in my opinion.
There's a difference between being a good guy in zone coverage and being a shutdown man-to-man cover guy.
Sharper is great at reading the QB, being at the right spot, and making a play on the ball.
He hasn't been as highly recognized for his skills when he's locked onto a receiver, most likely because he's not excellent in that regard.

Anyway, I don't think he has much of a chance.
There are 19 DBs in the HOF right now.
Only 2 of those played after 1990 - Darrell Green and Ronnie Lott.
There are two other guys that I think are definately in at DB in the near future, and those guys are Deion Sanders and Rod Woodson.
Those four guys represent an incredibly high bar.

Even if you think the HOF has room for guys less dominant than those players, there's another group of DBs that Sharper would be in the mix with.
How would you rate Sharper when compared to Steve Atwater, Darren Woodson, Eric Allen, John Lynch, Ty Law, Aeneas Williams, Rodney Harrison, LeRoy Butler, Champ Bailey, and Ed Reed?
I don't think he's at the bottom of that list, but he definately doesn't rise to the top.

So again, not much of a chance.
    Anything can happen.
Sharper may have 3 or 4 dominant years ahead of him.
The HOF might let more people in.
But as things stand I don't see it.
When the age of the Vikings came to a close, they must have sensed it. Probably, they gathered together one evening, slapped each other on the back and said, "Hey, good job." - Jack Handey [Deep Thoughts]
