Artus Hicks it the new starting right guard. Childress said that immediately after the trade. I also wouldn't be surprised to see them try to move Cook to the right tackle. At 6'7 I think he might be a little big to play center (and Birk is starting anyway) especially in the future when our starting quarterback (if Tavaris pans out) is 6'1 and not 6'5 like Brad, but he definately has the size to play tackle. It's also not as big of a deal starting a rookie at RT as it is LT because it's not on Brad's blindside.

RT- Cook? Rosenthal?
RG- Artus Hicks
C- Matt Birk
LG- Hutchinson
LT- McKinnie
I would tell people that too if I was worried about getting ripped for making the trade and not getting more young blood in the draft.

Maybe he thinks it also might light a fire under the other guys butts to want to come in and knock Hicks block off.

Re: Depth Chart - Post First Round

Quaterback:

Starter: Brad Johnson
He is our guy at starting QB, he can adjust to the system and with 7-2 last year, he showed he still got it..

Backups: Tavaris Jackson and Mike McMahon
Tavaris is our draft pick - he will likely be our third string QB, and Mike McMahon will be our 2nd string.

Others: JT O'Sullivan
We will likely go on the practice squad or be cut.

Runningback

Starter: Chester Taylor
He's our guy, especailly after we did not draft a runningback on the first day.

2nd string: Mewelde Moore
He will get some handoffs too, he - as Taylor also cathes well out of the backfield and is also an explovsive runner

Goal-Lineback: Ciatrick Fason
Ciatrick Fason will be a good goal-line back - but then again who wouldnt be behind Tony Richardson and Steve Hucthinson

Backup: Adimchobe Echemandue(or something)
In case some one gets hurst - he might get a handoff or too, but i doubt it.. Fason can step in as 2nd string back, and we can use Tony Richardson as Goalline guy in that scenario(much like Allstott)

Fullback

Starter: Tony Richardson
We got on of the best Fb's in the game, nothing to say about this

Backup: Joey Goodspeed - he proberly make the team, but then again - We still have Kleinsasser in the squad and he can also play FB

Tight End:

Starter: Jermaine Wiggins
Nice pass catcher - important to have a good TE in west coast offense. - We have that

Backup: Jimmy Kleinsasser
Also a good player, as a mentioned before - he might get some snaps at FB also

Wide Receiver

#1: Koren Robinson
I belive K-Rob is our guy, he's the best of our WRs

#2: Troy Williamson
Troy gets the number 2 spot, cause TT is better in the slot.

Slot Reciever: Travis Taylor

Goal-Line Recievers: Hank Baskett and Marcus Robinson

Right Takle

Starter: Marcus Johson
I believe MJ is our starter at RT - given that we got Hicks at RG

Backups:
Mark Rosenthal, Ryan Cook

Right Guard:

Starter: Artis Hicks
This guy knows the system, and Childress told reporters that he will start at Right Guard

Backups: Chris Liwienski, Anthony Herrera, Ryan Cook, Jason Whittle, Adam Goldberg

Center:

Starter: Matt Birk
Birk is back - and is one of the best at his position, no doubt he will start

Backups: Ryan Cook, Jason Whittle

Left Guard:

Starter: Steve Hutchinson
Hutch is proberly the best guard in the NFL, he will start

Backups: Anthony Herrera, Ryan Cook, Jason Whittle, Chris Liwienski, Adam Goldberg

Left Tackle:

Starter: Bryant McKinnie
Coming of a very good season, McKinnie will start again this season

Backup: Adam Goldberg

Defensive Ends

Starters: Kenechi Udeze, Erasmus James
Lets hope Udeze can stay clear of injurys..

Backups: Ray Edwards, Darrion Scott, DeQuincy Scott

Defensive Tackles: Pat Williams, Kevin Williams
Raaaaaaw!!!

Backups: Spencer Johnson, CJ Mosley, DeQuincy Scott

Lineback:

WILL: Chad Greenway
Will play the weakside linebacker

Backups: Napoleon Harris

MIKE: ???
Everyone will get at shot at this

SAM: Ben Leber
He's payed to be a starter - and so he will

Backups:
EJ Henderson, Dontarrius Thomas

Cornerbacks

Starters: ANtoine Winfield, Fred Smoot
No doubt

Nickel: Cedric Griffin

Dime: Dovonte Edwards
Will proberly battle this out with WHittaker from NFLE

Safetys

Free: Darren Sharper

Strong: Tank

Backups: Dustis Fox, Willie Offord, Greg Blue

Kicker

Starter: Ryan Longwell
No doubt

Punter

Starter: Chris Kluwe

If he can get clear of that injury he will start of course..

LS: Loeffler
Holder: McMahon
KR: Troy
PR: MeMo

My guess at the 55 man roster:

1. Brad Johnson
2. Mike McMahon
3. Tavaris Jackson
4. Chester Taylor
5. Mewelde Moore
6. Ciatrick Fason
7. Adimchobe Echemandu
8. Tony Richardson
9. Joey Goodspeed
10. Jermaine Wiggins
11. Jimmy Kleinsasser
12. Marcus Johnson
13. Artis Hicks
14. Matt Birk
15. Steve Hucthinson
16. Bryant McKinnie
17. Ryan Cook
18. Mike Rosenthal
19. Chris Liwienski
20. Jason Whittle
21. Adam Goldberg
22. Anthony Herrera
23. Koren Robinson
24. Troy Williamson
25. Travis Taylor
26. Marcus Robinson
27. Hank Baskett
28. Darren Sharper
29. Tank Williams
30. Greg Blue
31. Dustin Fox
32. Willie Offord
33. Dovonte Edwards
34. Antonie Winfield
35. Fred Smoot
36. Ronyell Whittaker
37. Heath Farwell
38. Ben Leber
39. Napoleon Harris
40. Dontarrius Thomas
41. Chad Greenway
42. Rod Davis
43. EJ Henderson
44. Cedric Griffin
45. Pat Williams
46. Kevin Williams
47. DeQuincy Scott
48. Erasmus James
49. Kenechi Udeze
50. Spencer Johnson
51. Darrion Scott
52. Chris Kluwe
53. Ryan Longwell
54. Cullen Loeffler

Some comments on Skum's post:

I say we make Jackson the 2nd string QB. Hand him the clipboard, make sure he has the headphones on, and have him send him every single play. If we totally immerse him in the offense I think it will help a lot.

Fason is not a goal-line back!!! Tice was idiotic when he put him there. Fason's talents and skills as an RB don't match up to being a goal line back at all. Our goal-line back is Chester Taylor. He is fine there, we have Richardson paving the path in short yardage situations.

Baskett has the potenetial to be good, but I doubt he sees much playing time, even in goaline situations.

Two TE sets are a very viable option as we still have Wiggins and Kleinsasser.

We have very nice depth on both lines.

LB is still our weakest position, but if two our of starters play solid football we will be fine there.

I don't think you can give the nickel job to Griffin automatically, he has to fight for it. I didn't like his highlight reel that much because he seems to be a really high tackler. Nonetheless, he provides a definite upgrade to our DB corps.

I would take it slower for Jackson, get him a QB coach to be with him during the week and during the game. Teach him one on one. McMahon has the skills to call the plays and the familiarity (some) with the O that Childress runs.

I agree Faison is not a Goal Line back and Tice is/was/still an idiot.

As far as depth on the D line, someone has to pick up the production we got from Johnstone when he was in the game. I think our O line will be fine also.

I like both Kliensasser and Wiggins, but the one thing we give up with Wiggins in the game is blocking. Wiggins has better hands though for pass catching.

About the LBs, I hope they fit the new system better than the old. If they do, then we might have a ton of LBs. I think there is plenty of skill there, just needs to be used.
