Thread: Which current roster player will be a surprise cut after pre-season?

Which vet will be let go after a rookie unseats him?
Or, which player will fall off the depth chart due to an unexpected, significant drop off in performance?

Possibilities:
Herrera, Hicks, Davis, Gordon, Whitaker, Fason, Owens, Dugan...

dugan was recently resigned to a longer contract, so i think he's safe.
Hicks is one of the players he pulled out of the eagles dumpster, so he's staying.
i say owens goes.

It depends a lot on who we draft.

I knew Dugan was signed to a long term contract extension recently.
Must've been brain freeze, I guess.

One of the SS. I like all 3 but don't know if we would keep 3 on the roster, and I don't know if tank or Blue have the range to play FS? Getting rid of Smith IMHO would be a huge mistake.

smith can play CB too, so i would be all for having competition between blue/tank for SS and let smith duke it out for #2 corner with griffin

I think Smith as a CB is more of a last reserve thing.

The only SS that seems safe is Blue, due to his youth.
If TWilliams can retuen to his pre-season form, before his injury, he would survive pre-season cut down day.


Recall that D.Smith was brought in by Tomlin, who isn't at Winter Park any longer to protect his (Smith's) interests.
The downtown Mpls nightclub stairwell incident doesn't help his cause, if he tied all the others in on-field performance.

So, I say D.Smith has the lowest chance of surviving camp cuts, among the 3 SS's listed above.

Likely Fason. We have 3 other proven running backs in Pinner, Moore, and Taylor. Of all of the players you listed he's the most likely to lose his job to a hard working undrafted rookie type player.
