Saturday, October 7th, 2006
The Vikings announced this afternoon that long snapper Cullen Loeffler has signed a contract extension. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Loeffler, in his third season from Texas, would have been eligible to be a restricted free agent this spring. He is considered one of the NFL’s top long-snappers.Kentucky Vikes Fan

The Vikings locked up long-snapper Cullen Loeffler through the 2011 season Saturday, signing him to a five-year contract extension worth about $3.1 million.
Loeffler, considered one of the NFL's top players at his position, is in his third year and would have been eligible to be a restricted free agent this offseason.
"I'm excited to know where my future is going to be," Loeffler said. "I love playing here."
Loeffler met Monday with coach Brad Childress, who told Loeffler the Vikings wanted to make him part of their long-term plans. Negotiations commenced at that point and concluded Saturday morning as the Vikings concluded their final practice before today's game against Detroit.
Loeffler joins left tackle Bryant McKinnie as holdover players that Childress has tapped for extensions this season.
"You're always being evaluated no matter what the coaching situation is," Loeffler said. "But we definitely did begin again this year because you're feeling ou a new head coach: what he likes, what he doesn't like, what his game plan is, what his thought process is. But you're constantly proving yourself."
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
