Consistency earns Longwell passing grade

Consistency earns Vikings' Longwell passing grade

The Vikings' veteran kicker might not have the most powerful leg in the NFL, but his success has earned him the confidence of his coaches and teammates.

Sure he can make long field goals, but he also can't kick the damn ball past the 15 on KO's without sacrificing serious hang time to get it back there.

Most on here think my stance is just because he is an Ex-PUKER (alright it might have some play into my opinion) but the main reason I want him gone is because of KO's and the predicament he continually puts our D in.

If he gets hang time they start on the 30, if he goes for distance they cold start anyweres because our coverage guys just can't get down there to cover the guy.

FG's be damned.
Get rid of his ass for a young kid who can kick it into the endzone with some hang time. Hire a ST's coach who can work with the kid and teach him how to kick FGs at the next level.

When Gary Anderson was our kicker, Mitch Berger our punter use to do kick offs... kickers don't necessarily need to have huge legs to be successful. I'd rather have an accurate kicker than one that kicks it out of the back of the endzone all the time

I seem to remember a bunch of you bitching about Edinger, not being able to hit field goals, yet he had a long leg.
Do you honestly think that a young guy will be more consistent than Longwell?
I don't care, get a kickoff specialist, teach Kluwe to do kickoffs, whatever, but Longwell is gold.
he's 34, can still kick em from over 50 and has great accuracy.
He's the best kicker we've had since Gary Anderson, absolutely no reason to dump him.
Sorry Marrdro, but I still think you hate him because he's an ex-packer.

+1, Longwell should stay. We need to work on our kick coverage.

Are you that blinded by the green and gold? Even me, who gets kicked off of Packer sites, can see the light. Last game he kicked to the 9, 9, 5, 4, to the endzone for a touchback, and to the 12. Did you watch the game? Nobody is buying what you are selling, so give up on the hate for LONGwell. The problem is the coverage. Don't blame this on hangtime because that is lame.

Longwell usually gets it between the white line to the 10 yard line.. I really haven't seen him kick it to the 15

And our kick coverage has been pretty good lately so im not stressing

It's the punt coverage that bugs me

Longwell is clutch.. One of my favorite guys on the team.. Just does his thing and hits big kicks for us

except for that 57 yarder against SD! DAMN HIM for not having a Janikowski like leg.... Bastard :P

which brings me to my next point....

Marrdro... the feeling I'm getting is you would rather have Janikowski than Longwell.
Is that right?

Obviously I am watching it a bit closer than you or you just want to have a bunch of ex-PUKERS on the team.
;D

JK, seriously though, did you see the sacrifice in hang time and ultimately coverage that those longer kicks brought.

Pin them inside the 20 and the dynamic of the drive is completely different. Maybe you guys like to see the other team start on the 30 or 40 every drive but I don't.

If you want to keep him for his leg on FG's, I will buy that and then, as kspurplepride said, you let the Punter KO.
Of course that would mean getting rid of Kluwe cause his leg isn't gonna do anything other than punt.

But to continually ignore the fact that our Kickers are severly impacting our coverage is just crazy and shows that you guys still don't understand a damn thing with respect to ST's and how they are played my friends.
