    Conference Tie Breaker

So I was reading Fox's 10 predictions for the 2nd half of the season and it confused me enough to at least pose this question... one of the gentleman's 10 predictions was the Saints finish 15 - 1 losing to the Pats... his last prediction was that Favre doesn't fall off his current level of play and carries the Vikings to home field throughout the playoffs... but the Saints are also in the NFC... so at the very least we have to go 8 - 0 the second half of the season to get to 15 - 1, but then what's the tie breaker with the Saints?

    - There would be no head to head match up tie breaker...

    - Saints don't play the Steelers and we don't play the Pats so we'd both be undefeated against common opponents if there are any...

    - Both the Saints and Vikes would have lost to only an AFC team leaving them undefeated in the conference...

Is this a tie breaker that could go all the way down to like points scored?
Anyone know the tie breaker scheme and if we even have a shot at home field (yes, it's a long way off and frankly I don't believe we'll finish 15 - 1, but still...)?

Again, I'm always a bit amazed that "professional" writers make mistakes like this... it's like when the predictions for all 32 teams end up with the league somehow going 156 - 100.

That is a good question and I saw that bit too.
I am not totally sure how it would break down but I think at some point it does come down to total points scored.

Wow... so it's strength of victory... the winning % of the 15 teams each the Saints and Vikes defeated would determine it... guess we might have to start cheering on GB and the Bears.
I don't even know who the Saints have beat but 2 victories against the Falcons and beating the Cowboys would definitely help them.
For us victories over the Ravens, Bengals, and maybe the Giants would be strong.

We are getting WAY ahead of ourselves here.

There is no way of knowing how any of this plays out should we both end up 15-1. We still have 8 opponents that would have 8 games left. We have the Bengals and Ravens from the AFC that would likely boost our SOS ... they have the Patriots, while the rest of the AFC East is looking shoddy. We have the NFC West, which definitely hurst, because they have the NFC East.

Bottom line though ... there is NO WAY to know how the rest of the teams play out right now, or even concern ourselves with strength of schedule. Just take care of our business and see what happens.

So, no, strength of schedule is not important. You can only play who is put in front of you. That is what is important. This isn't college. I guess Chilly should have agreed to a home-and-home with the Colts to boost our SOS.

I find these discussions equally as amusing as the asshats that give up on the season when it starts out at 0-3.
There are 16 games and only 50% of them have been played.

Who's buttons would we have to push if we didn't have discussions like this though?

I didn't say not to have them, I said I found them "as amusing as the asshats that give up on the season...."

    Re: Conference Tie Breaker

    It's simple.
Win out and then worry about it.
Although I just finished a spreadsheet on common games(5 of them) and conference games(12 of them) between NO and the Vikings.
I hope it does not go to SOS.

Perosnally, I can see them losing 3 games.
    NE, Dallas and Atl.
    But that's just me.
