COLVIN HEADS TO MOTOWN
One of our top sources tells us that the Detroit Lions have reached an agreement in principle with Bears linebacker Roosevelt Colvin.
Colvin would be the Lions second major defensive acquisition in five days. On Saturday, the Lions signed cornerback Dre' Bly, arguably the top coverage man on the open market.
In Colvin, they've nabbed the man considered to be the top linebacker in free agency.
Colvin has played for the Bears since being drafted out of Purdue. When teammate Warrick Holdman signed a new contract recently, Colvin's status was in doubt. Over the past few days, it became more and more clear that Colvin would not return to Chicago.
Colvin also had visited the Giants, who toyed with the idea of converting him back to defensive, the position he played in college. In Chicago, he dropped down to the end position in obvious passing situations -- and he bagged 10.5 sacks in each of the past two season.
