Childress Shows Softer Side To vikings
http://www.twincities.com/vikings/ci_6693465
"Veteran Vikings knew there would be a princely price to pay for boat parties and assorted shenanigans during the Mike Tice era.
So when Brad Childress was anointed the Vikings' head coach in January 2006, players and other employees expected a dramatic detoxification to take place at Winter Park. "

Re: Childress Shows Softer Side To vikings
Kind of funny.
...During the offseason, Childress teased Tarvaris Jackson, saying he had something "priceless" on the quarterback.
"He kept saying, 'I got something for you,' " Jackson said. "I was thinking about it for a week."
During a team meeting, Childress showed video footage of Jackson driving into a crate of fertilizer. Jackson immediately checked to make sure his vehicle wasn't damaged, then halfheartedly tried to place the bagged fertilizer back on the crate. He gave up, he hopped back into his vehicle and drove off, not realizing a security camera captured the entire incident.
"He got me," Jackson said. "That was funny. The whole team was laughing."...Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please. Mark Twain

As meaningless/harmless as articles like this usually are, I was actually pretty relieved to read something like this about Childress.
I'd always perceived him as this personality-less douchebag-ish drone that's all about football, 24/7.
Nice to see that's not entirely true.

The Chiller has established law and order, and it is now his team, with his system and his guys. I think he has us going in the right direction, and we may just be better than the experts think. I for one support Coach Childress.

It's good to see the players are geeting comfortable with childress and Childress with the players, and also that he and Winfield got together and discuss the issues. i think we made a good choice getting childress but that remains to see after the season if we can get good results

Re: Childress Shows Softer Side To vikings
As the article says, this team was a "mess." Zygi, being the good business man he is hired a no-nonsense manager (coach) who put the fear of God into the employees. No employee like a boss like that until he proves himself. Childress has proved himself and anyone who thinks he's not a good coach I think is wrong. He was the prefect man for the job. He may not have been elsewhere but he was for the Vikings.

Looking back on it, the team seemed tight last year.
I wonder if Chilly's tight reign was part of that tightness.
Hopefully letting loose a bit will help the team play loose.

Re: Childress Shows Softer Side To vikings
I hear he is even saying "Sorry about that" to each player and sheds a tear when he cuts them.
Flashback to the Cheers episode where Norm is put in charge of laying off the employees at his place of work and he starts crying each time he tells someone they are canned. That was a classic.lol
