MANKATO, Minn. -- Teammates say Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson cooks up a mean barbeque. He enjoys inviting teammates to his home and cooking chicken, ribs, anything.....

Nice read Singer.
This just hammers it home for me that all TJ needs is experience.
Sure hope he is as fast a learner as they keep saying he is.Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

Sure sounds to me that T Jack has everything he needs to start in this league skill set wise, hopefully about 2 or 3 games into the season thing will slow down for him.
Once things slow down and he gets use to the different blitz packages he'll do just fine.

Re: Childress preaching patience
TJ is going to improve everyday and with the help of his teammates will be a good leader of our offense. Keep the pressure on at practise and make him go through his reads. That way checking down to another reciever or back will come easier to him. He's going to be alright as long as he can protect the ball, and learn from mistakes. Reps, Reps, Reps....

Re: Childress preaching patience
This kind of talk always worries me.
This generally comes to mean, "be prepared for many losses"
Childress is a Big Picture guy.
And that could mean 1-2 years in the crapper before results are seen.
As Viking fans we know what that is all about.
My biggest hope is there is something Coach sees in this team that most of us are missing. Being a Viking Fan for 40+ years I am quite concerned.
Just my thoughts and I hope he knows what he is doing.

Hell, look at the players that are gone just from last year. That means anyone signed this year is a year behind learning the schemes already. Next year there will be players coming in 2 years behind.

Every year (if you might wise picks) you have 5-7 who will be there for the long haul.
Eventually, and this is were the patience comes in, those guys (2006-2007 draftees) turn into your vets and the follow-on drafts provides backups/depth who will have time to mature and learn from the staff as well as the older vets.
Unfortunately, we are in the second year of that grand scheme.
Of course we will never get there without continuity on the coaching staff and a owner that will be patient with a HC and his staff, allowing for that plan to take affect.
Of course, fan support plays a huge role as well.
That is were the patience comes in.
If we ever want to get back to the days of glory, we will have to endure a few rocky ones. What we have been doing for the last 4 or 5 sure the hell wasn't working.
Hopefully last year and this year are those couple.
I for one think we will see a lot of steps forward rather than backwards this year as last years rookies (2006) start to put it all together this year.
Next year it will even be better as the 2007 guys start pulling it together and so on and so on.
;DMany many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

Re: Childress preaching patience
This article sort of underscores everything I've been saying in the "..Up For Grabs..." thread.
I don't want to see us feed this kid to the grinder and not give him a fighting chance to succeed.
Of course, until we actually see him on the field, this is all speculative....still....

I'm a big Childress fan, and I thought Tice was awful from day one. I expect Childress will prove something to the naysayers this year or next. we shall see ...
