If Brad Childress can survive — no, succeed — amid the umpteen potential distractions he's faced during this 2008 Vikings season, he probably can get through almost anything.....

Re: Childress: No flash, just focus
Stick to your guns Coach Childress, the believers are getting in line. I for one like what the Chiller brings, and his team has bought it and they are playing good football. A strong finish, and a big playoff run will show the non-believers the error of their thinking. This guy has taken' the talent he has, and has been putting them in position to play to their strenths. Not flashy, but they are focused. Great article singer thanks brother.

His situation isn't really that trying. If he needs perspective, he can imagine being hired as the coach of the Detroit lions or the Oakland Raiders. He has had more support from the front office that the majority of NFL coaches.

Re: Childress: No flash, just focus
I'm sure one of the major things on his mind, is a son joining the marines, and potentially ending up overseas fighting. Life is always more important that sports, even if his job is in that field. BUT, it's time to take control of what he can do something about, not worry about the rest during game time.

Re: Childress: No flash, just focus
Thanks Singer,
One of the better reads I've read in awhile.....
I think Chili is doing a fine job, and he surely has loosened his collar lately.
If he had a top caliber QB to lead this team, I can only imagine how good we really could be, and that could be would be something speical....
I'm pumped to see how he coaches out the remainder of our games and hopefully into the playoffs. I'm even more pumped to see who we field at QB next season, be it TJ or someone we draft or pick up, but thats for another thread and hopefully a very good 2009 Vikings team.
Lets just win against the Cardinals today, and take it a game at a time on our way down the stretch here.
Some may laugh, but I really believe we can win out....................
I LOVE THE SMELL OF VICTORY IN THE MORNING AIR.

It's starting to come together now.

Go Vikings!

Re: Childress: No flash, just focus
yep.
If Chilly can keep things moving slowly, and we go at least 1-1 in the next games, and stay competitive through the playoffs, I'd be willing to give him another shot.
He's starting to earn back my respect in the past few weeks.

The team didn't look that good.
I'm glad we got hot now, rather then be like the Skins.
If Chilly wants an easier time he has to start the seasons better (and finish well), or he will always be on the hot seat.
If he gets a ligitimate QB in the off-season I think this team is golden.
I don't like trading away draft picks as a rule, but that is the piece we need to make a real run at it.In my many years I have come to a conclusion that one useless man is a shame, two is a law firm, and three or more is a congress.- John Adams

But we still need to be more disciplined on the field.
Childress and Wilf came in preaching discipline off the field, and it worked... but did we forget about it on the field?
We're the most penalized team in the NFL for the 2nd time since Chilly took over.
Our turnover ratio is too low. In 2006 we had a +4, last year +1, and we're currently at -1.
And we're forcing a lot of turnovers this season.... it's the giveaways that lose us games.
And that all comes down to discipline on the field.
If we cut the penalties and hold onto the ball we should be dominant.
