Chad Greenway extension is slowish
Chad Greenway extension is slowishOne would wonder if the Vikings are in negotiations for both Greenway and Peterson at the same time. Word seems to be that they are trying to lock up Greenway, and then will work to lock in Peterson. Personally, I would openly cry if we started next year without Peterson, and I don’t believe the Vikings would ever let that happen. Honestly, the public perception of Adrian should be on the rise too, after seeing Chris Johnson holdout, and hearing his demands to be one of the top paid players in the league, above and beyond a running back.
Mostly just on AD and Chad, but lets not forget about the other players one would expect to see contracts/extensions on before this stage of the game....
AD (Most confusing of all)
Shanc
Sauce (Might not see one until the end of the season but if they want to keep him they should do something for him)
Guion
EJ (if not him then Jasper needs to be looked at before the end of the season)
Erin
Tyrell
Sanford
Husain
Some that could be put off until the end of the year but I'm not sure why if they feel they are going to be fixes for long term

Re: Chad Greenway extension is slowish
I think they are going to get the Greenway thing done so they can free up the franchise tag in the event they need it to keep AD around.
As for the other longterm guys. I definitely see it as being unlikely that Sauce is around any longer after this season, but who knows. Shanc might be on his way out as well with the addition of Rudolph, but I definitely would not mind seeing us reup with one or both of those guys.
I imagine it will be relatively easy to keep Guion and the Henderson's around as the Henderson's would like to stay together and that limits their play in the market.
All of the others are very contingent on play. If they play well, the Vikes will likely be able to keep them around on the cheap.

I hope it doesn't come down to the tag. What kindof message does that send?

Not sure. I almost lumped Dugan in that mix based on how much of a role it appears the TE's will in this scheme. Left him off because of how well Reisner has played. As for the other longterm guys. Which is crazy in itself. As easy as those should be to write they should be done.I imagine it will be relatively easy to keep Guion and the Henderson's around as the Henderson's would like to stay together and that limits their play in the market.
Not sure about that. If they play well my assumption is that other teams will want them and they will be harder to retain if other teams want them as much as we do.All of the others are very contingent on play. If they play well, the Vikes will likely be able to keep them around on the cheap.
Again, the staff, by now, should have a good idea about each and everyone of players and should have done something to try to keep them. Letting our players hit the open market is a bad bad idea. Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

Just so you know ... NONE of the players on the team have hit the open market.

Just because they are not signed right now does not mean that all of these players are hitting the open market.
As for the Tyrrells, Hussains and Sanfords ... barring All Pro type seasons out of nowhere, none of these guys will command much on the open market. It simply is a position that does not bring money in free agency. So waiting it out with them will not likely harm us.

I'm tracking with all that. Truth is, I think I even have a thread out there that captures that stuff using rotoworld data.

Again I agree, but if you believe they are good enough sign them.As for the Tyrrells, Hussains and Sanfords ... barring All Pro type seasons out of nowhere, none of these guys will command much on the open market. The flip side to it is that they don't have to worry about getting injured because they have a contract and are secure.
Pay them what they deserve and eliminate the fallout from not doing it...
a. Gaurded play
b. Chance they could have a breakout year (Husain could this year as he flashed last year) and then garner more interest/cost more
c. Send the wrong message to your team when it comes to taking care of it which will get them all thinking about item (a).
I know that not all players will be resigned/extended just like the players know that. Problem is, other than Rob, this team is looking at a FO that appears to be hesistant to not only take care of its franchise players but the role players as well.
Again, bad bad message to send if you ask me.Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.
