Cedric Griffin Gets Community Service For DUI

Vikings' Griffin Gets Community Service For DUI

Vikings defensive star Cedric Griffin will spend two days doing community service to pay for an August drunken driving arrest...
Wow. I didn't even realize he got arrested.

I hadn't heard of it either...but this shows a bit of good decision-making on his part.

The incident occurred when Griffin pulled his car over to the side of Hwy. 5 in Eden Prairie because he didn't feel it was safe for him to continue on the road. Police saw Griffin's car and made the arrest after finding him inside.

I didn't hear about this either. But then, perhaps favre had just shown up in town.

Someone in chat before 1 of the preseason games had mentioned he was arrested... apparently the chatter had inside info as he was absolutely sure it had happened even though I never saw a report on it.
Looks as if his info was good.

Frankly, I'm disappointed he was arrested.
Maybe I'm twisting things a bit, but if the car was stopped at the side of the road, what law did he break?
Is it illegal to sit in a running car while drunk?
I'm by no means in favor of DUI, but to punish someone who realizes their making a mistake and immediately stops an action, I'm not sure that sits well with me.

You can get a DUI for being asleep in the backseat of a car with the keys in your pocket.

If you have access to the keys and are drunk in the car you can get a DUI.

Well, it was stopped at the side of the road... which means he drove drunk to a certain point and pulled over. Give him credit for pulling over but shame to do it in the first place. My guess is, given he realized his mistake, he is probably okay with the punishment.

I don't know what the laws are like elsewhere but I always heard here that if the keys were out of the ignition and in a cup holder or glove compartment or something you couldn't be arrested for DUI. That's kind of bullshit that they can arrest you for making a good decision and pulling over.
