Re: Carter to be announced as HoF semifinalist today at 4 CST

Go Cris Carter! I still think a great DVD could be made of just Cris Carter catching balls in games. At some point, put in a bunch of catches he almost made but were ruled incomplete. The acrobatics, the incredible desire to catch the ball no matter the odds, and the amazing catches he made all put him in the Hall. Then there are the numbers. Look at his catches and touchdowns, and the number of first downs he made. The Vikings could always get a short yardage play by throwing a pass to Cris Carter. Most teams needed a power running game. Cris Carter was the Vikings power running game--from the wide receiver position. Then he would catch one deep. He was truly unstoppable. Vikings were dumb to let him go, even though he was aging.

Randall McDaniel - He deserves to go. He was a complete force at right guard. Among offensive linemen, he is one of the greatest of all time. Letting him go was a big mistake made by the Vikes.

Gary Zimmerman - I still have no ability to understand why the Vikings let this guy go. All he did was win two Super Bowls with the Broncos afterward. He was incredibly stout as a LT. To me, he defined the position. He just shut people down.

As for other teams, I believe Ray Guy and Art Monk should be on the ballot. Guy once hit the roof of the Superdome. He was an incredible athelete, and could punt the holy hell out of the ball. He was a weapon unto himself. Art Monk made all the catches. He's got to be in, too. And Darrell Green.

    Go Vikings!

    Doubt it.
I'd say he's about as likely to go in as a 'fin as he would go in as an eagle. Cunningham on the other hand would be interesting to see who he goes in as.
We have this conversation every year.
    It always ends the same.
In the NFL they're not inducted by team... all the teams they played for are listed.
Carter will have Eagles, Vikings and Dolphins, McDaniel with Vikings and Tampa Bay.

    So true.

The Hall of Fame list players list players by " the major part of their primary contribution for any one club."

    That's like Stenerud.
He was with us for only 2 years and is listed as spending a "minor portion" of his career with us.

Carter will more than likely be required to catch his hall of fame plaque while diving one handed.

I am reserving my tickets for the induction soon.

Whoever else plans on going should do the same.

    Yeah, it will be great.
Carter is one of those Receivers who doesn't get enough credit when you bring up great receivers because he wasn't as flashy as Rice.
Chris Carter in my opinion was the greatest CATCHING receiver the nfl has ever seen.
I would love to see him inducted.
And have clips of his look of disbelief of Gary Anderson making a 50 some yard field goal (Sadly my most memorable Carter memory.)

    How do you do that?
    Is there a link?
Are the induction ceremony and the game seperate tickets, or is it like a weekend badge type of thing?
Any idea how much money we are talking about?

I think I might be up for this.

Maybe you guys that know more about the HOF than I do can answer a couple of questions.

What the hell does Ole number 47 need to do to get in?

How does Joey Browners numbers stack up against other safeties in the hall?
