That's 11 millon per catch.

Wow.....I'm amazed......purhaps even shocked........I didn't realise he had a catch

I wonder if there is something in his contract incentive wise regarding positive yardage

And as I said in another thread, everyone on PPO now has more yards than Carlson this year.

In all fairness though, we all bagged on Shank when he first got here because of the drops, but he turned out just fine. Maybe the injury is nagging him more than we think, so I'll give him a little more time. Perhaps that dual TE threat will get rolling after the bye week and just in time for our playoff run.

It is a %!#$%# headscratcher.. if this cat isn't ready for the game time punishment.. maybe his contract also has some.. balance in it for this?

i am excitied to see what will happen when we have 2 TE's ready and rockin. with PH/JS and AP in the backfield it could be the model for a great O. of course that is if... IF Carlson proves he's worth the money, and Rudy's massive hands keep catching the ball.

When he finally caught the ball, it would have better with an incompletion as his catch went for -1 yard.

I'm not ready to call this a bust only 4 weeks in.
It is a very similar situation to when we drafted Shiancoe. He was an unknown and everyone said we overpaid. His first year he had 27cathces and 1 TD. His second year he had 7td, 11td his third year.
I'm not saying Carlson will work out the same way, but it's possible.

And Bennett was cheaper, but is only signed for 1 year. I bet he gets more than 5million next year. Also he is the starter, which means he's being targeted far more than Carlson. If we had Bennett he would still likely be a backup. Bennett would be the first one to tell you the reason his production is up this year is because he's the starter.(as apposed to backing up Witten).

I am not going to just throw him to the wolves just yet, because the dude does have a ton of talent, but he really gets dinged up awfully easily.

Hopefully, now that he has gotten his feet wet and seems to be back in good health he can start to help destroy the middle of the field with Rudolph and Harvin. This will open up one-on-one coverage for Simpson all day long.

I agree with JMC on Bennett. All the whooping and hollering about him around these parts is ridiculous. He would not be putting up the same numbers here that he is in NY because we are simply a different offense. Carlson is more talented than Bennett at the end of the day. The only question is can he stay on the field.

EDIT: By the way ... the deal is reported to have $9.1 million in guaranteed monies, not $11 million. Obviously it would still be a ridiculous waste of money if he never comes around, but there is a big difference in every saying we wasted $25 million and we wasted $9.1 million.

9 Million would be if we cut him today...Which wouldn't be true because his 2012 contract is promised.. We are probably around 12 million. I can only use the figure of what we promised to pay I can't assume when we would shit can him...see BB. My issue with Carlson is that he lost his starting job to Zach Miller. He was healthy in 2010 and still did not perform. All he has to his credit is his rookie season of 700 yards.

Bennett would not be seeing the amount of balls he has received but do you think he would have 1 catch for -1 yards?

Then one has to ask themselves which is better, More talent for less games or less tallent for more games? (Yes I do know you can't predict injuries, but some are more prone than others)

At the end of the day, how does cutting him benefit us? We do need him for 2 TE sets & if for some reason K-Rud gets hurt, he'll be the one stepping in.

Granted no one likes the fact that he missed some games & has only caught 1 pass, but you can't catch passes if none are thrown your way.

I still believe the Vikings overpaid for him considering we have K-Rud who has excellent hands.
