The only thing I've got to say is that in general, I don't think the "experts" are any smarter than the average, realistic fan. We all have high hopes at the beginning of every season, yet the knowledgable fan knows his teams' strengths and weaknesses, and their real likelihood of success for the upcoming year. Obviously, we can't foresee all things; who among Viking fans could have predicted at the start of last season that Brian Russell would intercept nine passes after barely winning the starting job, and that Corey Chavous would pick off eight, doubling his career output in a single season?

Vikings fans have reasons to be optimistic this year, with or without media consensus. Packers fans equally have a right to be optimistic. Lions fans have a right to be optimistic. Bears fans....well, they'll always have memories of Ditka and Da Bears!
