I guess it could also have been titled Granted wanted too much since
Grant wanted $1 less than what the NFL's highest-paid coach at the time was making. Grant estimates that was probably $4 million to $5 million a year
But I'm surprised Red was even offering half that

He wasn't. He was offering Bud what Tice was making & in 2004 that was $1 mil.

McCombs and then-Vikings executive Gary Woods offered about $150,000 per game
that would be about 2.4 mil in a 16 game season if I got the math correct

Has Bud gone off the deep end? Yeah, he did s great job as coach but also lost every SB he coached and a few NFC title games. And at that age and having been out if the game that long there is no way he was worth what the top coaches in the league were getting.

How long have they been paying him as a consultant and how much is he skimming the team for a year?

Don't forget they are paying Bud's secretary too.

Grant then informed McCombs that he was a consultant for the team, with an office and a secretary, but he lamented that no one sought his input.
