    Brooks Bollinger

After Brad Johnson was benched following his fourth interception of the day, backup QB Brooks Bollinger brought a spark to the Minnesota offense. But Bollinger hurt his left shoulder while being sacked by Bears LE Adewale Ogunleye.
Brooks Bollinger (7-9, 70 yards), actually breathed a little life into the Minnesota offense.

Anyone know the extent of his injury yet?
I was so pissed to watch the play where he got injured.
    Ogunleye wasn't even touched!
The crappy o-line basicly just left Bollinger back there to get killed.
I hope he turns out to be ok.
I would like to see him start next week over BJ and TJ.
BB is still a young guy who actually does have some exprience.
People say that TJ is the for sure future of this team.
It might be, or it might be BB, or it might be someone else.
You don't throw TJ out there just to see what happens or "what we got" it is too early for that.
If TJ sucks it up for 4 straight games does that mean we cut him in the off season and grab another QB in the draft?
Of course not TJ is going to be here next season even if he were to play great or if he were to play like crap.
We know BJ isn't starter material anymore.
In my mind it better serves us to give Bollinger the shot to start, if he is no good then we know to look for another QB, if he does decent then we can hang on to him and he can compete with TJ to start next year.

Very few rookie QBs are expected to start right away.
You really have to be a top ten draft pick for it to be considered.
Lets remember TJ is basicly a 3rd round pick. The transition from college qb to nfl qb is huge.
People don't seem to realize this.
The best younger quarterbacks in the league right now are the ones who have had years to sit on the bench to study, perfect their game, gain the respect of their teammates.
The QBs who suffer the most are often the ones thrown to the wolves too early without proper time to mature and prepare for the most intense position in football.

    Some recent examples

Matt Hasselbeck-6 round in 1999-Benched for two years- 70QB rating first season starting in 2001.

Daunte Culpepper-1st round, 11pick overall 1999- Benched for one whole year.
Came out with a 98qb rating in 2000.

Chad Pennington-1st round, 18pick overall 2000-Benched for two years.
    104qb rating in 2002.

Marc Bulger-6th round 2000- Benched for two years. 101qb rating in 2002.

Tom Brady-6th round 2000-Benched for one year. 86qb rating 2001.

Drew Brees-1st round 2001-Benched for one year.
    76qb rating in 2002.

    Carson Palmer-1st round 2003, #1pick overall.
Benched for one year. 77qb rating in 2004.

Philip Rivers-1st round 2004, 4pick overall, Benched for two years. 94qb rating in 2006.

Jason Campbell-Redskins drafted Auburn quarterback Jason Campbell with the 25th pick in the NFL Draft 2005.
Benched for a year and a half.

Well as long a s Brad Johnson is not starting I would not mind watching TJ get some experience so we know if we need to look for another QB in the Draft. Bollinger would be fine at backup but we need a QB for next year.

It sounds like you didn't even read my post.
If TJ were to play these last four games, and lets say he plays terrible-does anyone here actually believe that we would be willing to spend another first day draft pick on the QB position based on his 4 game performance?!
Therefore that point is not valid.

The other point is what are we using to base that BB cannot be anything more then a backup?
He has 4 years in the league and he has put up decent numbers when he has played.
These last 4 games this season might be the chance to make the decision on BB, since he is older then TJ with more expirence and only a two year contract.

Though we probly won't see much of him anymore this year (or at all), It was still nice to see T-Jack take a few snaps during the game.
I do agree, though, that he should get the benefit of a full year's worth of studying before any starts come his way.

Right now, Bollinger should get the go-ahead from Childress.
The "T-Jack Attack" (as, I found out, it was called during his Ala. State days) will come soon enough.

Brooks Bollinger will not practice this week, he sprained his shoulder pretty bad. You won't be seeing him play this weekend.

    Is Brooks left handed?
I am trying to picture the game in my mind right now, and I think he is.
Maybe one of the reasons that he got hurt was because he got hit from the blind side...

Del, perhaps you can answer this for me.
if we switch to a left handed QB, will our strong and weak side formations switch as well?
Will the TE just line up opposite, or will the OL actually change places?

Anyone know if TJ is a righty or lefty?

Both Brooks and TJ are righthanded.
