Brian Robison - Speed from the edge

SPEED FROM THE EDGE

JULY 19, 2007

Author: Mike Wobschall, vikings.com

Fresh legs and a quick first step can give a defensive lineman the advantage needed to speed past a towering offensive tackle and register a crushing quarterback sack at a crucial point in the fourth quarter. In search of equipping the defensive line with such an advantage, the Vikings selected former University of Texas defensive end Brian Robison in the fourth round of last April's draft...

Re: Brian Robison - Speed from the edge

Coming out of Texas, Robison was known for his explosive speed from the defensive end position. In 49 games, he started 36 times and recorded 15 sacks and 41 stops for losses. He also added 57 quarterback pressures.
I'm anxious to see this kid play. His speed & athletic ability, IMO, will do wonders for our pass rush defense.

I think he's going to surprise a lot of people.

Good read Singer, thanks. Brian will be a asset early this year as a 3rd down rush specialest. Having him will let us spell Erasmus, and now having a stronger rotation keeping guys fresh into the 4th qtr.

I really hope robison or edwards starts instead of udeze.
They both provide a lot more speed and the QB will know when they are in the game.

But maybe udeze will come out hungry this year once he sees the open competition at DE.

Those 41 stops for losses is pretty big.
It's good to see he got penetration for a loss on the run in college.
But I don't think he would be capable of starting JJ, he's kind of a tweener and I can't see him performing that well against the run in the NFL.

This guy should be interesting to follow in training camp.
Chili was mixing up the 1st team DEs a lot in OTA's so maybe Robison will get his chance to see what he can do against some of the best run blockers in the league.

Re: Brian Robison - Speed from the edge

Brian Robison has the fastest first step in the NFL no doubt about it.

He moves 7 feet fast enough to propel a 16 pound ball almost 70 feet, and he starts that 7 feet facing backwards.

He ran the second fastest 40 for defensive linemen at the combine at 4.67. Had by far the best 3-cone drill at 6.89, by far the best vertical jump at 40 1/2 (Higher than Rice and Peterson FYI), the best broad jump at 10'1. One word to describe him: Explosive.

He's a phenomenal athlete, and he's going to surprise a lot of people. I can't wait to watch him play. And he's a track and field guy, so he's already good in my book.

He is definitely explosive, and will add competition, and that is never a bad thing.

Bringing in hungry comptetion that have something to prove always makes your team better, and he is definitely that.

I am looking forward to him doing some damage
