First of all, I had hoped weeks ago the QB controversy would be at an end. I realize now it will never be because some fans expect perfection out of Daunte. There was a time when I read the posts of Pep haters and listened to what they had to say because they pointed out flaws in his game that were noticeable. But after his stellar performance most of this year, I realize that they will never be satisfied with him and will always look to the two and a half games this season when Frerotte came in, thinking he should guide us into the playoffs. My only response to this is that no QB is perfect, not Pep, not McNair, not Manning, not Favre. Pep is our future and I am very excited about that. He has flaws but they can be ironed out and at least we have some stability at QB unlike a lot of teams. You guys should be thankful we have Daunte because QB is one position where you can't afford to be changing players all the time.
The defense, well we haven't had a respectable defensive unit since the Dungy days but we have several talented players. Kevin Williams, EJ Henderson, Mike Nattiel, Corey Chavous, Brian Williams, Brian Russell...and the beauty is that most of those guys are rookies or young players. Things can only get better as long as we manage the draft and FA wisely this year.
The Bears game was lost because of stupid penalties and mistakes on special teams. Any surprises? Hell no...this is a coaching problem. Tice needs to pay more attention to these areas or we will be burned by KC this Saturday because their special teams has been awesome this year. Stopping Priest Holmes, and holding their ST are the key to this game. I am not unrealistic, I know the Vikes will have a very tough contest, but I am optimistic as well...the Chiefs can be beaten.
The bottom line is that our season is not over despite some disappointing setbacks. Let's show some faith in our team, and regardless of whether they make the playoffs, let's hope they show the Chiefs that Super Bowl IV is not forgotten and that vengeance is due.
