I don't see him making the team either.
Problem is, why let him go so another team that needs a QB can snatch him up.

Again, I still say it will be....

    a.
    TJ starting
    b.
    Gus Backup
    c.
    JDB Backing Gus up.

    I know he was released......
    d.
    Wright Practice squad.

Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

Re: Bollinger continues to battle for QB spot

I was pretty sure that Gus Frerotte would be the #2 guy come September when we first brought him here.
    That's probably still the plan.
But looking at it from a distance, I don't know why Bollinger wouldn't have a chance to take the #2 spot again.

Consider that Frerotte saw a lot of action last year for the Rams and was not good - at all - during that time.
That team featured Steven Jackson (missed a couple of Gus' starts) and Torry Holt - not exactly a bare cupboard.
In contrast, Bollinger's numbers are better than most people remember.

Here are their numbers from last year for comparison:

Name Comp. % Yds./Att. TD Int Rate
    Frerotte 56.3% 6.1 7 12 58.3
    Bollinger 66.0% 7.8 1 1 88.0

Additionally, their career QB ratings are pretty comparable: 74.3 for Gus and 75.2 for Brooks.

I still think Gus is the favorite to get the job.
But if there's a real competition I don't think you can completely dismiss Bollinger based on past production.
When the age of the Vikings came to a close, they must have sensed it. Probably, they gathered together one evening, slapped each other on the back and said, "Hey, good job." - Jack Handey [Deep Thoughts]

    I think I'd tend to go for the better TD percentage;

    Frerotte: 4.2%

    Bollinger: 2.0%

While Frerottes INT % was 5% higher last year, it was only 2.6% in 2005 the last time he played. With our defense, not all of those would have equated into points for the defense.

Bollinger is unable to win a game as a starter. Wasn't good here neither at the Jets ( going 2-7 i think as a starter )

Yeah, I can see how you could feel that way.
I'm just trying to say that it's not obvious.
    Gus is no all-star.
The assumption here is that Gus is going to easily win the job.
If there's a real competition, I'm not so sure that the 'easily' part of that is true.

Yeah, but Frerotte wasn't exactly lightning in a bottle for St. Louis last year (1-3 when he threw 30 or more passes, 0-4 in other games with less than 10 attempts).

There have been four seasons since Gus played well for us coming off the bench.
He hasn't posted a rating better than 72 in a season since then and he will be 37 in a few weeks.

I guess all I'm trying to say is that I don't think Frerotte is any sort of world-beater.
He's just a guy, just another journeyman QB.
