Yah Withrow looked good to me.. Cant pull like Birk, but can get on the blocks pretty good.. I just hope Birk can recover and we can have our starting line the whole season.. if not Withrow is fine by me

    Re: Birk out 3-4 Months

Don't worry - Birk will be back - for one thing, he has the heart to play football and that's half the battle.

He might miss some time, but he'll do everything he can to come back, and dominate when he does come back.

And until he does return, Withrow will be fine - I think he's probably the best backup center in the league - he could start on a lot of teams.

    Thanks PPE for the sig.

    Re: Birk out 3-4 Months

Withrow is an adequate replacement but is not a full replacement for Birk. This could be an interesting choice for the Vikes, take a chance on that Birk will be back for the season opener, or at worse miss the first couple of games - or see if there are any centers that get cut next month.
If we're going for a replacement then do it soon so that they can get maximum reps with the team. Center is not just a case of snap and block but a savvy position to make the OL adjustments prior to the snap.

Withrow is a good backup C but we lose a little in the running game when he must play over Birk.

Is there any centers that are supposed to be picked high in the draft so far? We might have to use a pick on one.. we dont have many needs.. Next year it looks so far that we should take a center and safety first 2 rounds

Withrow will do a good job to start out, I'm more worried about how birk will look when he gets back. Center is a big need for next year

We need to get Eslinger the C for the University of Minnesota next year even though he is a smaller center he can move and pull as good as Birk can.

Poor Birk...he's such a great OL. Hopefully he stays healthy after he heals.

as long as he is back to his pro bowl form by midseason we will be just fine. His surgery history is not a concern, this is the first major one he has had. This does suck for the outside running game though as he is an excellent blocker off the edge when he pulls.
