    Biggest Surprises and Dissapointments

    Surprises

Keith Newman-this guy is HUGE, can run and can hit. Ive never seen him make a mistake this year.

Jermaine Wiggins- athletic or not, he makes PLAYS, and in this business, it doesnt matter if you have a body like ronnie coleman.

Brad Johnson- calm, cool, gets the w

Willie Offord- until he got injured, he definitely proved to me why he had so many expectations coming out of college. He is definitely a starter in this league and will make an impact next year after corey chavous is gone. A true SS, big, strong, smart, can run and hits like a truck

CJ Mosley- I knew this guy had alot of upside coming out of college, but he has certainly proved to me that he can play.

Dovonte Edwards- all i know about him is that he runs a 4.37, but he has proved his worth 2 games in a row.

Chris Kluwe- the BEST ROOKIE punter in the nfl.

Paul Edinger- come up big for us this year

EJ Henderson- he should be the leader of the defense next year, can hit better than alot of lb's

Pat Williams and Darren Sharper- These guys arent surprises because they were always good players. They have definitely helped out our d get alot better.

    DISSAPOINTMENTS

Nate Burleson- he has dissappeard, he was a great number 2 last year, but injuries and a lack of focus has shadowed him this year(Every game we lost, I saw him laughing on the sidelines.)

Daunte Culpepper- THe most talented player in the nfl showed his worthiness as an elite nfl qb, he did it without moss last year too. he looked good in preseason and trainign camp, but the loss of an offensive coordinator(linehan), his knee (which was CLEARLY BOTHERING HIM THE WHOLE YEAR, even if he didnt admit it) and a LACK of an offensive line crushed him. Hopefully things will be better for him next year, he will definitely be a top qb. I say that he will pass for 4000 yards and 35 tds at THE LEAST if he is there for 16 games.

The offensive line- I knew losing Birk and Dixon , who were our best ol last year would hurt, but it seems like everytime brad or dc called hike, the defenders were in our backfield. Sometimes they didnt blitz us because the opposing front 4 would MANHANDLE our ol. Things should hopefully pick up soon. We need to get some help next year here in the free agency and draft.

Fred Smoot- He is definitely our best cover corner, but he is having a down year. He has always been good in washington, and hopefully he will end his career in minnesota as one of the best corners of his time.

Napoleon Harris- Has more potential of most nfl linebackers, big, strong, fast and very athletic, but mentally he cant cut it yet. I HOPE that he can rebound and become an elite nfl linebacker or a very good one, he definitely is our most talented linebacker and can easily make an impact in this league.

Kevin Williams- He was a top 5 ut last year, showcasing his defensive end like speed and Nose tackle type power, but clearly this year he has been our 2nd biggest dissapointment behind dc. He weighed 300 last year and came here weighing 325-330 pounds, about 25-30 pounds overweight. The knee surgery definitely had an impact on him. His character is very questionable with his drinking problems and I WAS SO SHOCKED WHEN I HEAR HE ABUSED HIS WIFE. I can allow weed and sex boats, but will definitely allow this kind of behavior. Hopefully, his drinking problems have stopped and next year he better get 8-12 sacks otherwise... idk

Onterrio Smith- Our best runningback hands down, he chose to puff the magic dragon again. I want him back next year, but who knows, same with kelly campbell.

Raonall Smith- Big and fast, but we need this guy to crack the starting lineup, hes WAAAAAAAAYY to talented to be 3rd string linebacker.

Ted Cottrell- The worst dc in football, we have so much wasted potential on the bench. Oleary MADE THE MOST WITH WHAT HE HAVE, Cottrell defends his inability to coach well with the excuse that we dont "have the players for his scheme." Mike Tice, if anyone has straightend up our defensive mess, not this joke.

Steve Loney- You guys can fill this out.

Hopefully these guys will get their acts straightened out by next year or this will be s serious problem. Anyways, Go Vikings 11-5

You can add Michael Bennett to the disappointment. With everything I heard coming out of training camp, I thought this guy would be a beast this year... that's not the case.
The best part of my day is when I get down on my knees, with my head in my hands, and thank GOD for everything he has given me.

I agree - I have always been a Michael Bennett supporter, but this year he has come under scrutiny and I must say his flaws (mentioned in great detail on this message board) have been exposed this year. But I believe MB still has value to this team this year.

As far as surprises and Keith Newman are concerned, I am not surprised by his production. The guy is very intense and he has his game face on every game. I like Keith and think he is underrated.

yeah forgot to add b williams, he is an absolute stud. Maybe he can play ss for us when smoot comes back.

Michael Bennett hasnt produced, but our offensive line is downright offensive.

Kieth Newman is a beast, i hope that we can tie him up for a few years he's playing pretty good football, especailly for what we are used to at LB. EJ has also stepped up, he has those great games then he has those games where he doesn't do as much but definitly not a liability anymore. Darrion Scott, explosive player with alot of upside i like his future if udeze doesn't pan out.

Willie Offord most def, he was a beast untill he got hurt, i hope he comes back strong next year to fill in for chavous.

    Re: Biggest Surprises and Dissapointments

I am not surprised by much on the defensive side, and I won't say I am disappointed by anyone who has injuries becaue we don't know for sure what we would have or could have seen.
I am definitely surprised by Johnson's control of the offense and ability to keep the team focused when so much was going wrong, I am definitely surprised by the great special teams play all around. I mean can you really be surprised by Wiggins by the way? He does not have a TD yet and his yardage is not all that high. I mean I am happy with him, but pretty much what was expected right?
I am disappointed by the terrible play of the O-line for the most part and the apparent lack of focus and ability to bounce back from Burleson. And most of all I am disappointed with Bennett after getting another chance to show what he could do and letting it slip through his fingers twice in Cincinnati.

    Agreed on the D-Line.

Next year if everyone can stay healthy...that's a scarry line.
