Biggest change for the Vikings this year: Special teams

A Special Episode of Blossom

By: Viking Update Staff

Date: May 30, 2006

The talk of the last five months around Vikings country has been the conversion to the West Coast Offense and the Tampa-2 defense. But the biggest change for the Vikes could well be the changes to a special teams unit that more than carried its own in the Vikings late-season run in 2005.

The biggest change we may see on special teams may not be in the positive.. If they don't let K-Rob do kickoffs, they may be taking a step back in that department. We will see what happens.

If Ferraro grew out the stache and put on a leisure suit, he'd make an excellent 70's pr0n star.

i think our depth at defense will really help this year with special teams this year, and yes while k-rob is an amazing kick returner, idk if we actually need him to return kickoffs, having t-will and mewelde back there would be just as good imo

Yeah, haven't heard much about special teams this offseason. Hopefully Ferraro will pull it together.

I keep seeing people wondering why we picked up some of the FA we did. People who may not have contributed much to the team at their offensive or defensive positions. Yet these people could be great special team players who haven't cost them much in the way of $$$$. That could be the thought in the back of their minds.

One thing the author of this article failed to mention, is that we let go Edinger but we brought in one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history in Longwell! And we may have lost some players from our special team units, but we brought in other players to help on special teams.
What we've got here is failure to communicate.

I just hope Longwell's as clutch as Edinger was, and actually makes kicks in the first half. That would be very good for our team.
