Bevell may be assuming primary play-calling duties in 2007

Darrell Bevell says he will be ready if Vikings coach Brad Childress gives him the duties.

...The scene was a noticeable departure from last year, when Childress personally installed the offense and directed its every movement. And while no final decisions have been made, the modification is part of Childress' plan to evaluate the offense and determine whether Bevell will assume primary play-calling duties in 2007...

ANYBODY'S gotta be better than Chili at calling plays.

At the same time, however, Childress recalled how Philadelphia coach Andy Reid reacted during a preseason game several years ago when he handed off play-calling duties.
"You can't believe the things you see when your head is not down on the play-calling card," Childress said. "You're more of a head coach."
Sound like Bevell calling the plays and Childress coaching would be good for everyone.

I second that notion... Chill dog had way to much on his plate being a rookie HC.. I say let Bevell call the plays, and Childress worry about all the other stuff.. He will not do a dam thing here, until he lets the others do their jobs as well..

Bevell said Thursday that his play-calling style would not emulate Childress as closely as some might think.
My dream is not to see 2-3 yard passes on third and 5 this season several times a game

He should have realized that a lot earlier last year & turned over the duties then. By his own admission, he was starring down at the play card rather than watching how well his plays were being executed on the field.
Also, how do you correct players mistakes & make proper adjustments, when you don't see what is happening on the field?
Watching game film afterwards & making adjustments/corrections then is a tad bit late IMO. It still needs to be done, but you have to know how well it's being executed during the game as well.

No, I know I read here that T-Jack was the Messiah.

I'm still of the mindset that B-chill took the play calling duties last year not because of a
"I'm the head cheese and no one else is" approach but rather but because he had to for the following reasons:
a.
He felt Bevel (and the rest of the staff) needed a year to see how the KAO in action.
A staff needs to learn to work together just like the team.
b.
He, not Bevel, would took the heat for alot of the offensive woes attributed to play calling vice player ineptitude. Take a look, he is a "Fall on the Sword" kindof guy.
As far as the 3-5 yd dump offs.
Get used to that kindof football my friends. Randy and Daunte are gone.
We will have a offense that is focused on running, short dump offs, crossing patterns and YAC to chew up yardage.
Granted they will (and did last year) take thier shots deep, its part of the game, but they will not go back to the Randy ratio and throw a deep pass every other play..... ;D
