Here's an interesting stat:

The Vikings rank fifth among NFL teams with 24 passes of more than 20 yards, .....................but the Patriots correctly believed that many of those plays were of the catch-and-run variety.

A little later in the article...

After holding the Vikings offense scoreless, did the Patriots reveal a fundamental weakness by focusing their pass coverage on short-range routes? No, Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said Thursday.

"I haven't seen that as an issue," Bevell said. "We have the ability to get the ball down the field. We've been able to do that."

He is in a tough position, the scapegoat position.
It appears that he is in the same position that Childress was in with Philly....kind of calling the plays or suggesting them to Reed.
Bevell has the hounds nipping at his heels and is either deservingly or undeservingly going to feel the brunt of the criticism when it's time to let heads roll.

It makes no difference to me if they can pass it 20 yards or 5.
What really matters is can they get into the endzone.
Most of the time there isnt even an attempt.
Thats what they need to look at and neither childress or bevell ever seem to address this issue!

It matters to me. When it's 3rd & 12, a 5 yard pass isn't going to get it done. Move the chains & we'll get in the endzone.

Isn't "downfield" more than 5 or 6 yards?

I hate admitting that there looks like no downfield attack, nothing really over 15-20 yards. but everytime it seems like brad is gonna crank out a long shot. its not working out. but at times this dink& dunk type offense can work, The recievers need to start getting some serious YAC. the midrange stuff works but they need to find away to start getting some plays more than 20 yards downfield. but hey what does your average guy ( ME) really know if I had super-uber crazy smarts I would be some sort of coordinator, since I am not I get to spend sundays yanking my own hair out of my head.
