Re: Betting Against Your Team
In general I try not to bet against the Vikings. If you win the bet and the Vikes lose its a very bitersweet experience. I usually bet with the Vikes even if the odds are in the other teams favor. After all, what would a true Vikes fan do? Stick with the team of course!

Of course the seven g's is a plus and a happy wife is never a bad thing, but I personally would never bet against my team to get that money. What if you bet against your team and they win? Then not only do you serve yourself an injustice by going against your own team, but then you have to hear your wife yap for a week. If you are a betting man, just pick another game you are confident about!ADuyba26, are you a business man or what ..... I mean what would make your woman happy, crying over a Viking loss or taking her out for a nice dinner because you took care of business......Remember the guy won 7000.00 dollars and his girlfriend, now wife is from Minnesota she gave him the ok, he made the bet, he won, what is wrong with that?

My sentiments exactly!I don't think I could ever bet against the Vikings ... and to be judgemental ... noone who does bet against them is as big of a fan as I am, period.
To those who bet against the Vikes: I know this may seem a little exaggerated here, but bear with me...would you ever bet against your son's baseball team if you knew for sure you would win the bet? My answer would be hell no. Even if you win the bet, does it make you feel like "the man" knowing you just bet against something you are so emotionally invested in? The same rule applies to the Vikings for me.

Cool opinion, but in this country and in this lifetime, their is so much disappointment daily(if you watch the news) and to have a little retribution on your feelings that particular day the Vikings played in Jan. of 99......After all those Super Bowl Losses.....I understand the guy, after all it wasn't me who did it .....(Yes Touchdown Miami).....Anyways good luck playing it safe......I don't think I could ever bet against the Vikings ... and to be judgemental ... noone who does bet against them is as big of a fan as I am, period.

I don't have a child, but I was making an analogy. I also respect your opinion, but you also have to admit you aren't too big of a fan.

Re: Betting Against Your Team
When the Vikes have a big game coming up I will ALWAYS place a substantial bet AGAINST them. Here's my rationale:
If the Vikes win: I'm happy because I'm a Vikes fan.
If the Vikes lose: I'm not as upset because I get a big payout.
I like to think of it as my way of screwing fate for all the crap it has dealt to me because there's no way fate can win... I'm reasonably satisfied whether the Vikes win or lose.
Comments anyone?

Re: Betting Against Your Team
I go to Vegas once a year, and every year I bet on teams to win the Superbowl. I try to bet on the Vikings along with others. This year I didn't because they were one of the favorites. I look at it as a good thing because I will root for the Vikes anyways. So now, I have more teams to root for in case the Vikings happen to lose. Don't get me wrong, I would prefer the Vikings to win over winning some money, but the best odds I saw in Vegas this year was 15:1. I'm going in few weeks so I'll probably be looking at their odds again.
