    Betting Against Your Team

Since I live in Vegas, I thought this would be an interesting topic. I occasionally bet football (every week) here in town. A friend of mine who has been a viking fan since the early days.....(yes the 4 Super Bowl losses). Anyways in 1998 (99 Playoffs) we were huge favorites to win against Atlanta -14 plus points......and + 1400 for Atlanta on the moneyline, meaning if you bet a 100 dollars on Atanta you would win 1400, 200 you would have gotten or won 2800.00. He put 500.00 on the Falcons that day only because he said he was tired of the sorrow of the Vikings. I watched the whole game with him and some friends and all he did was cheer for the Vikings not for his potential 7000.00 Dollars!! Well as we all know what happened; he was the only one that wasn't drunk off his ass or crying that horrible day in January. Question, would any of you have done the same thing?!?!?! I mean I somewhat see my older friends point but I wasn't around when the Vikings lost those Super Bowls I've just seen the tapes.....65 toss power trap...still kills me. Then again I could use 7 Grand!!!! You?

I would of bet against Michigan last year in the Rosebowl since I know they couldnt stop a scrambling QB, although I dont remember who was favored.

Yeah, I would, and have, bet against the Vikes. They are my favorite team in the world, and it doesn't make me any less of a fun. But when betting for money, which I do every week in the football season, I bet for who I honestly think will win the game. Truthfully, even being a HUGE life long Vikes fan, I'm not naive enough to think that they will go 16-0, so when getting for cash, you've got to be realistic. Also, it's kind of a win-win situation too. I have bet against the Vikes many times, and never once have I ever rooted against them. I would rather lose money in a bet then see them lose. So either they win and I'm happy, or they lose, I'm pissed, but I've got more money in my pocket to go buy more Vikes memorabilia with.

Hell no, I would never bet against the Vikes. Whether you win or lose your bet, the feeling will always be bitter sweet. If i don't think the Vikings will win against the spread, I wouldn't touch the game...that simple. Besides, how can you possibly enjoy the game knowing either your team loses or you lose money?

ADuyba26, are you a business man or what ..... I mean what would make your woman happy, crying over a Viking loss or taking her out for a nice dinner because you took care of business......Remember the guy won 7000.00 dollars and his girlfriend, now wife is from Minnesota she gave him the ok, he made the bet, he won, what is wrong with that?

The only way I would bet against the Vikes is if they were having a horrible season and werent going to make the playoffs anyway and they where playing a real real good team that I know they would probably lose to. I never have bet against them, but that is the only way that I would.

In hindsight (and possibly foresight), that isn't a bad move. In other words, would I pay $500 for the Vikings to go to the Super Bowl? Vikings win the game, yeah I lose the bet but they're going to the Super Bowl! Lose, and at least I'm compensated monetarily.

I'm shocked the money line was that high! +1400 is incredible! The Falcons were 14-2 in the regular season. I know the Vikings looked dominant at 15-1, but for a 14-2 team to be at +1400 is unbelievable. At those odds, sure I bet against the Vikings if I bet at all.

Also remember the Falcons had that 5th place schedule that season......Different kind of 14-2 is all I'm saying.....Soooooooo much money was on the Vikings that year....The Casinos alredy had Viking banners up, not the Jets, not the Broncos, not the Falcons....It was the ultimate anticipation! Sad.......

I don't think I could ever bet against the Vikings ... and to be judgemental ... noone who does bet against them is as big of a fan as I am, period.
