    Bethel Johnson a ViKiNG

    http://www.vikings.com/news_detail_o...ves101006.html

The Minnesota Vikings have released QB Drew Henson from the practice squad and WR Maurice Mann. The Vikings have signed WR Bethel Johnson, a 4-year veteran, to the active roster. Johnson was originally selected in the 2nd-round (45th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. He was traded to the New Orleans Saints during the 2006 offseason in a swap for DT Johnathan Sullivan.
now that's an intersting move.. i'm gonna read up and post more once i know who this guy is.

I like this signing (especially being a mid-season one). While he's not very tall, Bethel Johnson is fast and he'll probably be used to stretch the field when playing with the offense. But, I would assume that he'll mainly be used as a kick returner since that was his main duty with the Patriots. An upgrade over Maurice Mann, that's for sure.

I may be mistaken, but didn't we sign Mann off of the SeaChickens practice squad?
if so aren't we required to keep him on our roster for the rest of the season?
I could be way off...but please fill me in.

Well Mann never got to return any kicks for us. Maybe Johnson will. I think he's also a return specialist.

Thanks to PPE for the sig.

I love this move! Not very good receiving stats, but he has had definite past success on special teams. Finally we can bench McMullen and get TWill off kick returns.

    i don't understand this..

Knee - IR. Out for the season
    (Updated - 9/6/06)

    PRESEASON FANTASY OUTLOOK
Johnson was traded to New Orleans in the offseason and will be utilized as a reserve wide receiver and special teams option. He has incredible speed and some upside, but Johnson still warrants no consideration in drafts.

he's had one year over 200 yrds receiving.. mostly 150's avg. and he passed waivers to be put on IR?
and we now think he's better? a lot of question marks is all i've seen so far.
maybe by not catching kick offs T.will can focus on catching passes. i'm not sold on this one, but gotta trust the front office to supply players we need.

I believe that if a player is signed to an active roster from another teams practice squad, that player must be kept on the team's active roster for three weeks. After that, he can be let go.

And I think that is why we didn't sign Bethel Johnson earlier. They wanted to wait until we could release Mann. When we brought Bethel in for a workout a couple weeks ago, I kind of figured we'd sign him once we released Mann since he was basically inactive since signed.
