Berrian wants to get back to being big-play guy

Bernard Berrian wants to get back to being a big-play receiver for the Minnesota Vikings

MANKATO, Minn. Vikings wide receiver Bernard Berrian became a brand name for big plays in 2008 when he scored three touchdowns of 80-plus yards, including a 99-yard reception that tied an NFL record.

Re:Berrian wants to get back to being big-play guy

With the episodes shot and in the can, Berrian is finished moonlighting and working on the only real production that matters: catching more footballs and getting the Vikings to the Super Bowl
    I think that deserves a +1

"I definitely want to get back to having big-play capabilities. That's what they brought me here for, to make plays."
So he want's to get back to being a big-play guy... good. I want him to get back to being a big-play guy. I think we all want him to get back to being a big-play guy. Now get out there this season and do it. :cheer:

He's about due for another turf toe injury.

Not dropping the ball would be a good start for him.

It's Berrian's turn to be healthy. He'll be the #1 receiver for the Vikes this year by the end of the season.

He is healthy and in great shape. With Favre back, he will have at least 800yards

He's a greyhound. Fast as hell, but just as fragile.

He's had some flashes and made a few awesome catches, but he's inconsistent.

I disagree... Rice exploded last year, I can't see his personal performance dropping enough to fall behind Berrian on the depth chart, barring QB issues- which would effect all recievers anyway,

I'm not saying he wont be good, but he wont pass Rice IMO.

This, of course, assumes a few things not currently in evidence:

1: That Berrian will be able to seperate from defenders and get open. Injuries aside, he hasn't exactly impressed me.

2: That Berrian will actually catch the ball - while he's no Troy Williamson, he has been a disappointment here.

3: That Favre will actually start seeking him out. With Rice, Shiancoe, and Harvin drawing the majority of Favre's attention, Berrian will have to really step up his game to start getting more opportunities - like the above mentioned "Getting open" and the "Catch the damn ball".

Of the current starting receivers, Berrian is the one we can most do without. He's been the most unreliable, and the least productive. And the blame for that goes squarely on his shoulders.

So while I'd love for him to be a "big play" receiver, I'd settle for him simply performing up to his contract.

Re:Berrian wants to get back to being big-play guy

I know Berrian was injured on and off last year but i got the feeling that he sulked/felt sorry for himself a fair bit too, whether it was because he wasnt the go-to guy, i dont know.

A healthy Berrian can play a big part for us this season as im sure Rice will get a lot of double coverage leaving possibly BB 1 on 1 a lot.
