    Bench Adrian Peterson?

ProFootballTalk.com has an interesting segment, suggesting that the Vikings should bench AD because of his fumbling problems.

It is becoming clear that AD has more trouble holding onto the ball than he should. For his career, he's dropped the ball 19 times in right about 900 touches, or about once every 50 times he touches the ball. That doesn't seem all-time terrible, but it's not good.

The suggestion in the PFT video is that he should be benched for a quarter or a half, or serve as the backup for one game. The idea isn't that these guys would rather have Chester Taylor, but that AD needs some sort of wake-up call.

Personally, I think that reasoning would be correct if you think it could work. I don't think it would. It suggests that AD has a laissez faire attitude toward the game and that his fumbling is just a mental or concentration issue. I'm not sure that's the case. The guy strikes me as a hard worker that is passionate about winning. I find it hard to believe that he is just shrugging off the fumbles as no big deal.

I'd trust the coaches on this one, since they are much better informed. But my instinct is that it isn't something that would work.
When the age of the Vikings came to a close, they must have sensed it. Probably, they gathered together one evening, slapped each other on the back and said, "Hey, good job." - Jack Handey [Deep Thoughts]

They clearly already benched him when they ran Chester out a few extra times last game.
They then put Adrian back in during garbage time to show a little confidence in him and basically say, "figure this shit out."
I personally think that AD is a very hard worker and I think he really has to focus on this a little more. I think this weekend against Arizona AD may be going out there to remind everyone that he is in fact the best back in the league ... and he will do just that.

I read that one. Theres another one out there that shows how many fumbles other "Hard" runners had thier first 3 or 4 years. An eye opener when you look at how many Jim Brown had.

Yeah ... a lot of the old timers put the ball on the ground ... but there is a BIG BUT to this one.

Back then, if the ball came out pretty much AT ANY POINT it was ruled a fumble. Also, there was a lot more hitting "late" and roughing type of hits.

With the knee down and elbow down rule, all the replay, and the penalizing of cheap shots the league has in general seen a reduction of fumbles ... but AD still puts it on the ground quite a bit.

Good points about the changes in the game. All of which I don't like by the way.

Additionally, I agree with you that he drops the loaf to many times, but I don't want to say it. Soonerbornbred hasn't yelled at me for a while. Don't want to get him mad at me again.

I don't think so. Take another look at the play-by-play. AD's second fumble is at 10:27 in the 3rd quarter. He gets the ball again later that drive, and he also gets plenty of carries on the ensuing drives. AD ended with 25 carries, Chester with 4.

It should be interesting. Arizona was one of the top rush defenses in the league early in the season if memory serves. They haven't done so well in that department in recent weeks against Seattle, St. Louis, and Tennessee.

He should have been sent to the bench because we were up by so many points, not because he was playing bad.

Maybe next game we will need to make more use of CT
    We're bringing purple back.

Next game, or any after that, really doesn't concern me. What will be interesting to watch is the level of trust they put in him come playoff time, especially if he does put the loaf on the carpet a time or two more.

I thought he would do that against the Bears, the remind everyone thing. He has had great games against the Bears and I thought he would again.

Then again, I thought that AD was sick the few days before the game. I could have sworn I say that on the fantasy reports. They might have been game planning with CT more so he got more touches this game. IDK! Just a thought

I would like to see AD take over a game but I don't think it is going to happen unless we play a really bad run defense team.

    Rush Defense Stats:

The Bears were 24th on that list.

    Re:Bench Adrian Peterson?

The RB coach who is suppose to be a ball buster needs to correct how AD holds the ball.

It's simple stuff there are too many times when:
*He makes his cuts with the ball away from the body
*He holds it away when he's on a big run
*He doesn't wrap it up with the other arm in the pile

They need to do something to correct the problem every time they see it not after it's a fumble.

He's now a marked man, where once a guy has him stalled but not tackled, the second guy there doesn't go for the tackle they go all out for the ball. AD is going to have a hard time even going to the ground as they will hold him up so they can pull at the ball. i.e. the way Mathews did in GB.

Bench him? Don't think it's gonna work. It will hurt the team and force him to sit on the sideline and beat himself up.
