    Bad Drafts

I think one of the biggest mistakes in the draft was picking Dimitrius Underwood.
Another was trading so many picks for Herchel Walker.
Anyone think of a worse pick than Underwood?

    Re: Bad Drafts

I know that those are probably the worst, but I can name another that might be the worst. We passed on Warren Sapp to draft DE Derrick Alexander. Sapp was the next pick, and turned out most dominant DT in the NFL for about 6 years, while Alexander never made even the smallest impact. Had we drafted Sapp, we would have had John Randall in his prime and Warren Sapp as our DTs. For 3 years we would have had possibly the best viking DT tandem ever, and who knows- maybe that would have been enough to turn the tides of the 1998 disaster.

Ted Brown and Leo Hayden didn't work out. I had forgotten about them. Generally, it's a good list. Much better than the recent drafting by the Browns. Every team has a spectacular 1st round bust. It happens and it hurts. There are quality players on the 1st round list. Underwood was a real head case stabbing himself with scissors. I'm sure his signing bonus was spent quickly.

    Re: Bad Drafts

Granted we made a few bad picks but you must remember that the draft is a crap shoot at best some years. At least we didn't pass on Barry Sanders to draft Tony Mandrich (damn that is funny). I must say with Studwell in charge we are doing better and have had a couple real good drafts.
