    AP Running Lanes

Is it me or is Adrian running through the middle a lot more than he used to. I watched the Lions and the Seahawks games and didn't see him run the edge that often.

I also still think he hits the line too soon on occasions and the blocks haven't developed.

Far be it from me to criticise the best back in the league but does anyone else think this?

I was thinking the same thing, watching the Seahawks game.
Seems they ran alot up the middle.
I guess one could argue that they are "softening up" the defense, but I'd like to see him on the edge a little more.
They are passing the ball to him on the edge more though.
I also saw him start in the backfield, only to shift up into the receiver position.
Trying to give defenses more looks, get him the ball in space I guess.

Its all part of the bigger chess match.
Setting up things for games to come.

    Speaking of lanes.
I have noticed that the OL is not only creating a nice pocket, but the pocket actually has establishe passing lanes that coincide with the recievers routes.

Something we haven't seen under this regime.
IMHO the OL is playing better than any OL for quite some time.

It's hard to have the 2nd best offense in the league if the OLine isn't performing well.
Maybe I need to rethink my stance on firing the OLine Coach.
I would like to understand what changed though.
While Birk may have had his issues pulling, it's hard to fathom that Sully is a better straight up blocker or that he's making better line calls than Birk.
While Load may be a step up from Cook (or a giant leap even), is improving that one position really enough to make this remarkable of a difference?
Something has changed this year, for the better mind you, I'm just curious what it is.
The true measure of a man is what he'd do knowing he'd never be found out.

YES ! You are right, we are not using AP correctly. At OU, he was a "run to the edge" runner. You can't do that as much in the NFL, because the linebackers are just too fast, but just crashing AP up the middle is obviously not working, because it is just too easy in the modern NFL to jam the lanes with guys who are 300+ pounds.

We need to get AP in SPACE !!!

    Re: AP Running Lanes

I think that there are pretty decent running lanes.
If you watch the games a few times a week you can really see how hard and fast Peterson hits the hole.
Often times getting in there early, looking for some contact. This is not to say that I think he is making the wrong cuts or hitting the wrong hole, just that I can see why everyone preaches patience with him.
I do not believe that this is an OL issue, just a little trickeration for what's to come, along with some improvement needed by AD.

By contrast when you see Taylor in there (granted Defenses key him for the screen action), he is a little slower with his first couple of steps, more patient as he hits the hole and can eek out the 5-10 yard run on occassion.
It is my opinion that AD is such a beast that he just hits the hole as hard as he can every time, and often wears on people to the point where he breaks free.

I also like the idea that Chilly/Bevell are seemingly getting Taylor more involved to keep Peterson fresh.
I think that this is a critical component to any run in the playoffs this team intends to make.
    1) both backs are fresh and game tested, 2) other teams can't just look at the formation or back and determine run, screen, or pass.
