Is Anyone Else Worried About Our Coaching Staff?

I'm sorry for starting yet another thread on the coaches, and I don't want to sound negative, but is anyone else a little worried about the lack of actual experience of our new coaches in their new roles? We have a head coach who has never been a head coach before, we have a 36 year-old offensive coordinator who has never been an offence coordinator before, and we have a 33 year old defensive coordinator who has never been a defensive coordinator before.

Now none of those three in isolation bothers me, but all three at the same time sort of does, especially the youth of our two coordinators along with the lack of experience. And they're bringing in all new coaches, a new defensive scheme, a new offensive scheme - especially when we don't need a new offensive scheme - etc., etc.

Man I really want this work, but I'm a bit worried. I'd like to see some more guys with grey hair on our staff, some more experience.

    Thoughts?

I've thought about that a little bit here and there as well. I just try to stay positive about all this, we finally have an owner that cares about this team and wants to bring us a superbowl FINALLY! These guys all know their football and i'm going to trust them to make the right decisions and see how this season goes before i complain! haha

I won't start worrying until there is something to worry about.

Let's wait & see what these guys can do first.

There is that uneasy feeling in the back of my mind though.

Many of the coaches will be coaching in areas they've never coached in before & are therefore unproven.

If they were good at what they do now, why change it?

example: If Bevell was a great QB coach, why didn't we hire him as a QB coach?

If we go 7-9 or worse next year, I doubt people will say, "Well at least we have a disciplinarian as coach now."

Everyone's always so flucking worried about everything! Quit worrying....everyone last year was "worried" about our D, but once they meshed (even though it took em' a few weeks) they were outstanding. Our new coach seems to be a very smart guy, where Tice is sort of an idiot...if something happens, I have faith that these guys can correct it....

The Vikes did all they could, we had a problem with our coaches, they attempted to fix it....not everyone liked the same guys, I heard guys calling for Ferentz, for Haslett, for Fischer, for Saunders....the truth is that you can only judge these guys on how they do next year...I love the fact that Peppy is our solidified starter again, ending any trade talk (we don't wanna re-live the Moss trade again, we HAVE plenty of cap room)....

It is going to take time for everything to come together. Players
will have to get used to the new coaching staff, coaches will have
to become familar with the skills that the players have, etc.
Everyone is going to have to adapt to the new schemes on defense,
offense, etc. What I see is a grand experiment that has the
potential to fail badly but also has the potential in the long run
to make the Vikings a lot better only time is going to tell.

My expectations for next year is a 8-8 season because I believe the
year will turn out to be a rebuilding year. When you have
inexperience in the coaching ranks, you can not expect everything to
be perfect. When you have players playing in a new system that they
are not comfortable, you never know what missed assignment will
occur and what it might cost you in a game.

Re: Is Anyone Else Worried About Our Coaching Staff?

We still have a very skilled team with solid veteran leadership and a lot of potential with our rookies. These guys are used to watching film and learning about the game...i have a hard time believing that using a new system will be THAT difficult to understand. We'll see next year when gametime comes but i expect to see a pretty good season out of these guys.

I am a little concerned about the young age of some of these guys but I'll take a wait and see attitude. Like FedjeViking, I'm not looking for a world beater team this year but I would like to see us go 9-7 or there abouts.
