When the age of the Vikings came to a close, they must have sensed it. Probably, they gathered together one evening, slapped each other on the back and said, "Hey, good job." - Jack Handey [Deep Thoughts]

But the running game is working.
How can you keep harping on the ZB scheme when that part is working.
It is the man to man stuff that is failing.
We suck at pass blocking my friend, not run blocking.

Running game + Zoneblocking = good

Passing game + slow feet (McKinnie) + Center turned RT (Cook) = bad
I agree that the zone blocking in the running game is mostly working, although Philly had our number most of the day.
There are a few things we could improve at though.

The biggest problem I've seen is, when we run outside with the pure zone blocking (not pulling), getting out on the linebackers off the combo blocks.
When we don't get our guys to release to the second level, the linebackers can flow to the ball easily.
I also don't think we cut block the way the the best zone blocking teams do (how much of this is still legal?).
If we can't get in front of a guy, then we missed him because we can't come in under him from the side.

In general, guys sometimes miss their blocks.
    It happens.
    But we're usually pretty good.

Just wanted to add a comment/question on (b) and (c).

I don't think we're going to be giving up on McKinnie in the next two years.
McKinnie's contract is such that we could cut or trade him next year with a large if not prohibitive cap hit (~$4 million).
In 2009, the cap hit is almost nothing.
However, ignoring bonuses that were already paid, his salary also isn't very large for a left tackle at this point.
So, unless we decide he's actually terrible (not just bad), I don't think it's likely he's cut or traded before 2010.

My question is, could he be more successful at right tackle?

My vision is McKinnie moving to the right side of the line while we bring in an athletic rookie stud at the left tackle position.
On that side of the line, he's not as likely to see the true speed rushers.
He certainly has the size to play on the right side.

Assuming the shift could work (I'm not sure it could, that's why I asked), the biggest problem I see is that he might not be happy to do it because it's a demotion and might affect his future income potential.
    Would he then hold out?
The other problem, of course, is getting that stud left tackle.
This is becoming a very pleasant re-occuring event.
    Nice post.

I love it when you smart guys show me something I didn't know/or missed i.e. guys releasing to the second level.
I will watch a little more closely next time.

I am not sure about your question.
Very astute observation with regard to the $$$ involved with either benching him or releasing him.

As for playing RT, I remembered some stuff about how athletic he was however, the knock was he was not able to play right.
Did a quick search and could only find one link with some comments.

Would be a very interesting attemp though.
He would match up agains the Opposing D's LDE who, by tradition is a bit bigger/slower than a RDE which it appears he seems to have the most trouble with.

    Let me do some digging.
    Very interesting though.
Couple of T's I've been tracking for my mock.

Jake Long, OT, Michigan (Senior): He's protected Chad Henne's blind side and opened holes for RB Mike Hart. Michigan always cranks out solid offensive line prospects and Long is one of the best in awhile.

Sam Baker, OT, USC (Senior): As long as his injured knee is fully recovered, and there is no reason to believe it won't be fine, Baker will challenge Long as the best tackle prospect in the draft and he will be a top 10 pick for sure. Baker is a very good pass protecting LT who teams will certainly covet.

    Thanks
