The answer to the question no one is asking?

Joe Webb was drafted as a wideout.
The Vikings want to keep him and Sage and T-Jack.
    The Vikings need more wideouts.

Seems like a no-brainer to keep Webb on as a wideout and line him up in the Wildcat from time to time. Is it just me, or does that make perfect sense?

It's difficult to get production out of a first year wide receiver even if they have played receiver in college.

Webb would be great in the wildcat though.

I think he has a shot at QB. I expect Sage to be dealt or cut.

Usually this organization likes to bring in veterans to replace injured players. I think that's what they are doing.

I like the idea as putting Webb as a WR. It doesn't mean he wouldn't be able to play QB if the situation exists.

Joe Webb is a quarterback. A practice roster quarterback.
    We're bringing purple back.

I don't see any reason to have Webb as a WR on the depth chart when it comes time to make a 53-man roster.

With Harvin's issues and Rice gone for the first five games at least ... then we need solid producers at WR. Berrian, Harvin, Lewis and Walker are all but locks.

I will say ... I am VERY intrigued by Weeb's possible future in the league ... and I am one to not quickly be impressed by 6th-round fliers.

His speed and quickness is VERY unique. You can see it every time he fades back that he is just faster than almost every else on the field. His arm strength is fantastic. Of course, if he cannot learn to read a defense and get through progressions it will never matter.

But there is something there worth keeping around and just seeing what happens over the course of this season and maybe the next couple.

I don't see the point. Either way you have only 53 spots to fill. If they do keep all 4 QB's then they will have to carry one less at another position, possibly WR(unlikely since we have a ton of talent at the position).

I would be interested in seeing Webb play a little WR in the preseason. Probably they will stick to QB for now, don't want to overwhelm the kid learning 2 positions.

Ton of talent at the WR position? Rice is out, Harvin is questionable and still hasn't really practiced yet this year. That leaves Berrian, Walker, Lewis, Payne, Biddle, etc...seems a stretch to say we have a ton of talent at the position. We definitely seem thin once you get passed our Top 3.

Few teams have stars past there top 3. Rice, Harvin, Berrian, WAlker, Lewis is a pretty talented 5(Walker won't fill Rice's shoes but I think he'll be okay if healthy as the 4th or 5th option).

I agree that few teams ahve talent past their top 3...but by saying "we have a ton of talent at the position" would insinuate (at least too me) that we have more talent at WR than the average team, which I would argue we do not. ESPECIALLY considering the Rice and Harvin situation.

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/08/24/childress-wont-rule-our-ir-for-sidney-rice-wont-move-joe-webb-to-wideout/

The head coach also said that rookie Joe Webb, a college quarterback drafted to be a receiver then moved back to quarterback, won't be moved to receiver. Childress said the team discussed it but decided against it. "We'd have been working with a rough piece of clay there," Childress said. "Obviously, he's a superb athlete, but he needs work in what he's doing right now."
With zero work at WR, there is lil chance of him helping us there this season. Maybe in limited packages, perhaps some wildcat? Him and Harvin or Peterson in the backfield at the same time could be interesting!

I don't think we keep 4 QBs...my gut feeling is that one half of the Sagevaris combo is going somewhere else.
