Peterson gets 109 mph speeding ticket
By JEFF BAENEN , Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson said Thursday that he'll be more careful after police clocked him driving 109 mph on a suburban Minneapolis highway over the weekend and cited him for speeding.

Peterson told The Associated Press he "got a little speeding ticket. I need to be more aware of the speed I was going and not let it happen again."

I wish he would just own up to it instead of downplaying like he is. He needs to be more aware? Really? Of going double the speed limit?

Well I guess this qutoe answers me and Jargo's questions:

Peterson said he was headed to the downtown hotel where the team stays the night before home games. He said he was not late at that point.

"After I got pulled over, then I was late," Peterson said.

Non issue to me. Now if he was smoking a joint or doing other things while speeding it would be. I doubt he will miss any time for a speeding ticket.

Re:Adrian Peterson Cited for Driving 109 mph

In re-thinking it ... this is awfully fast at a time when there had to be other cars on the road.

I have no problem with him sitting a series over it. But much more than that would be a little overboard I think.

I do not really have too much of a problem with people speeding, probably because I do WAY too much of it. But there is no doubt that this was excessive.

Saying he "was not aware" is a little ridiculous. He needs to just man up and say, "I was driving too fast and recklessly and I will not let it happen again." Really as simple as that.

    Eh.

Stupid move by a guy that's the 'heartbeat' of the team. But he also handled it the way he should have. Can't fault him too much for that.

And if I ever owned a car that could go faster than 70MPH (much less a car that can clock at over 109MPH) you bet your ass I'd do the same thing. Stupid? Yes. Reckless? Yes. Young man? Uhh.. Yes.

Punishment would be the ticket, the public humiliation/let down, and whatever he gets from the team/NFL. I'm just glad no one was hurt.

I doubt the team or NFL will do anything about it. If this was a lesser known player, there wouldn't even be an article written about it.

Let's hope his need for speed carries onto Sunday night.

Holy Crap. Not the kind of behavior I would expect from AD.

I bet AD is benched for at least the start of the game on Sunday.
I don't get reprimanded at work for driving my personal car faster than the speed limit.

There is a natural consequence for this. He may lose his license for recklessness. I don't know what the penalty is in MN, but this is something that plenty of people do on a regular basis.

It is one thing to punch someone, waive your wiener around in public of poop in someones closet (multiple time) than it is to drive fast.

If the Vikings don't start him, I will go along with it, but I think it would be a little bit over the top for speeding. Drinking and driving is a different story.

This is definitely not a smart thing at all.

Not a huge deal. He is just a kid afterall with a fast car (I have went as fast as 109 in the last year, which was also stupid, but I didn't get caught).

At least he didn't pull any shit with the officer and is just taking care of it.

He should not be "punished" by the team or anything, but should definitely have his eyes opened a littl.
As far as we know from one Twitter update he didn't pull any shit with the officer. I'm going to wait and see for more information to come out.

And, yes, he should be punished by the team. He put himself and other people at risk with his recklessness.

Speeding is a socially acceptable crime. I have seen people that are driving 20 cause more rick on the road than someone speeding. Nobody is going to get in trouble for traveling too slow, not even on the interstate. Traveling at the speed he was going has extra consequences than just speeding as long as they uphold it in the courts. It is consistent.

Some of the other crimes that athletes get off the hook for because they have good lawyers are the ones that fans want retribution for.

I am interested to see the precedent the Viking will set for excessive speeding.

I would be happier with a public statement so young kids don't think they are going to do it and then accidentally kill themselves rather than to sit him out a few plays. If I was the judge I would ask him to do a public awareness ad as his debt to society. His time is worth more than the fine he could impose.
