As a whole, we love to reminisce about the "greats".
More so even than the great teams.
Fact.
We're kidding ourselves with the 40 for 60, and so was Kapp.
He should have accepted his award instead of embarrassing the organization that gave it to him.
;D
Kapp embarrassed himself the next year by demanding a huge raise, much more money than Bud Grant thought he was worth.
He was summarily traded to the Boston Patriots, where he suffered an ignominious season (3 TDs, 17 INTs) that was his final one in the NFL.
It turned out Kapp was truly only one of 40 most valuable Vikings.
Sounds like Kapp was worse than anybody.
Also sounds like the only reason he turned down the award was to draw attention to himself and make himself seems like a better person than he really was.

As I recall, Kapp and Jim Marshall once got into a fistfight after a game because they were arguing what side of the team caused the Vikings to lose the game.
Kapp argued it was the offense's fault, and Marshall argued it was the defense's fault.
It evenutally came to fisticuffs.

Truth be told, I hadn't heard either one of the Kapp stories that Pat told...found them both really interesting.
Didn't realize he was such a character.

He was.
Lots of stuff out there to read on him.
Truth of the matter is, he was a decent basketball athlete who sat the bench alot.
It was that time playing as a bench (and his basketball coach) guy that taught him the importance of "Team" over "Individual" in team sports. Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

In an effort to keep from forcing one of the mods to place a little colored dot next to my profile for all to see, I thought I would go ahead and help some of you out with a few questions related to Vikings team history.
These aren't to hard.
Anyone with a pocket protector and google can find them.
What will be fun is the story behind it that should make all of you rethink your fixation on individual awards such as MVP's.
a.
What does 40 for 60 mean?
b.
Who coined it?
c.
When did he coin it?
d.
What did he do at end of season team dinner?
