40 for 60 - A bit of a Trivia Quiz
All this damn talk about "Who's the MVP" is just flat ass pissing me off.
In an effort to keep from forcing one of the mods to place a little colored dot next to my profile for all to see, I thought I would go ahead and help some of you out with a few questions related to Vikings team history.
These aren't to hard.
Anyone with a pocket protector and google can find them.
What will be fun is the story behind it that should make all of you rethink your fixation on individual awards such as MVP's.
a.
What does 40 for 60 mean?
b.
Who coined it?
c.
When did he coin it?
d.
What did he do at end of season team dinner? Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

As for your guesses. All are correct except the Tequila answer.
I would see how you would get that though, he did love the stuff from all that I've read.
Keep trying.
(Hint) Think about why I made the thread. Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

Re: 40 for 60 - A bit of a Trivia Quiz
A. B. & C. are a no-brainer.
As far as to what he did at the end of the season dinner, I believe that is when he turned down an award that was bestowed upon him, because he felt it was "40-60" & the team deserved an award & not solely him.
Can't recollect for sure if that was a league given player award or a team given award, but he did turn it down.

Re: 40 for 60 - A bit of a Trivia Quiz
Singer - You are quite correct.
Kapp was being presented an award by the Quarterback Club (some sort of local booster organization, I suspect) for being the "Most Valuable Viking".
He said there was no most valuable Viking, only 40 most valuable Vikings....40 for 60...then said he couldn't accept the award, put the trophy down on the dais and stepped down.
You can see this at the beginning of NFL Films 1969 Vikings highlights, which is wonderfully captured on a 4 season set called "The Purple Power Years", which are the NFL Films highlight films of the Vikings four Super Bowl seasons.SKOL VIKINGS!

Re: 40 for 60 - A bit of a Trivia Quiz
It's a team sport but what draws us most is star power.
The ability of a select few to step above and beyond their peers and do what most others could not.
As a whole, we love to reminisce about the "greats".
More so even than the great teams.
Fact.
We're kidding ourselves with the 40 for 60, and so was Kapp.
He should have accepted his award instead of embarrassing the organization that gave it to him.

Kapp embarrassed himself the next year by demanding a huge raise, much more money than Bud Grant thought he was worth.
He was summarily traded to the Boston Patriots, where he suffered an ignominious season (3 TDs, 17 INTs) that was his final one in the NFL.
It turned out Kapp was truly only one of 40 most valuable Vikings.SKOL VIKINGS!

Sounds like Kapp was worse than anybody.
Also sounds like the only reason he turned down the award was to draw attention to himself and make himself seems like a better person than he really was.
