Just imagine how versatile and great he would be on our defense.

And Ultra I would much much much rather see Derek Anderson playing good to sometimes great football on a winning Vikings Playoff team than drafting yet another stud/bust QB in the draft that wouldn't have us in the playoffs for 2-3 years with help.
Where did I mention draft one?

We did not draft a "stud" in TJ.
He was not touted as one and he is not one.
How do you even know DA is wroth it?
Because he can beat teams that were 0-8?
Derek Anderson has had success in the NFL. 20tds to 8ints. Obviously it is impossible to know for 100% that he is worth it, he could have problems we don't know about. But remember another guy that started the season played horrible. I just really am running out of patients. I don't want to wait 3 or 4 years for a rookie to be nfl ready, if ever. Teams spend decades looking for a quarterback and so when you have a chance at a guy that has had some success you need to take it.

I'm getting a sense of deja-vu, now where have we had similar conversations??
Oh yeah when everyone was all over Matt Schaub at the same time last year.
Seems every year there is a backup springs up where everyone wants to give up the farm for him. So DA is this years must-have that a team can't do without?

Lets see how his season progresses before annointing him as the franchise saviour
Time spent annoying a Packer fan is never time wasted...

If I was the GM here is what I would do...

    FA

Go out and get one of these 4 QB's

    1.)Derek Anderson,CLE
    2.)Donovan McNabb,PHI
    3.)Brady Quinn,CLE
    4.)JP Losman,BUF
    Anderson will cost a 1st and a 3rd.
You're willing to pay that for a guy who's had minor success with Cleveland?

    McNabb is not a FA.

Quinn is under contract through 2011.

Losman is under contract through 2008.

So, of your list of 4, only 1 of them is actually available in the 2008 off-season, and he will likely require major compensation to get.

    Stinky poo.

    =Z=
    LMAO.

Resisting... urge... to make... Madden comment...
I would rather give up a first and third round pick for a guy that we know can play in the NFL(Anderson) than give up a first on someone that we hope will be able to play in a couple of years. Anderson is a proven winner and would instantly make the vikings playoff contenders in 2008.
Look who has the most receiving yards for the Browns... Although it may seem like Anderson can play, the Vikes don't have Edwards or Winslow. He has more offensive weapons that the Vikes do... so don't expect him to put up the same numbers if he comes here.
Anderson has not proven a thing. He has proven that he is a decent NFL quarterback for half a season, and outside of that you can't really pass judgment.

Like Ultra said, he has beaten the teams he should beat and hasn't done much outside of that. He struggled against Pittsburgh (twice), New England and Baltimore who have a combined record of 20-7, while he played well in games against Cincinatti, Oakland, St. Louis, Miami and Seattle, who have a combined record of 11-34. Not that impressive, IMO.

Granted, having a quarterback that is just OK would be better than what we currently have, and I think if we had Anderson on this team we'd have a winning record. BUT, if you are going to give up a 1st and 3rd rounder (and don't kid yourself, that is what it will take), I think we should get A LOT more than someone who is simply adequate.
    [/quote]

There are very few qb's in the NFL worth a 1st and 3rd rounder and Derek Anderson is not one of them.

You make a good point ultra....I didnt realize the schedule he has played.

He did throw for 360yds against Seattle and he threw 3 TD's against Pittsburgh. I also thought he played pretty well against
New England even though he threw 3 INT's. But other then that he has played nobody good.

I would never give a 1st and a 3rd for him.....I just dont buy that is what they want for him though.

vs Seattle he did do well.
They are in the middle as far as Pass D is concerned.

Against Pittsbugh he did throw 3 TD passes.
However, he started at the Steelers 3 yard line on the next TD pass because of Cribb's 90 yard return.
On the 3rd TD pass he started at the Steeler 18.
Only once did he drive them down the field and score.

Lets look at the Pitt game a little closer:

    1st QTR:
    7-10---56 yds---1 TD
    (opening drive pretty impressive)

    2nd QTR:
3-6---24 yds---2 TD's(started at the Steeler 3 on the TD and Steeler 18; not bad)

    Halftime:
    10-16---80 yds---3 TD's
    (Cleveland winning 21-9)

    3rd QTR and 4th QTR:
    6-19---43 yds---0 TD's

    Final
    16-35---45%---123 yds---3 TD's---Loss

When the Vikings were taken off for the Philly game I actually watched the Browns game and laughed.
D.A. was aweful in the 2nd half!

He did look good vs Seattle, I will give you that.

But here is the scenario prior to the Seattle game:

The combined record of teams Cleveland has beat is 6-24

The bottom 4 defenses in Points Per Game are:

    29.
    Rams
    30.
    Browns
    31.
    Bengals
    32.
    Dolphins

So, I would not crown Anderson nor would I crown their offense.
What the Browns are doing is beating the teams they should beat, something that has bit them in the ass for the past few years.

Look at Anderson when they played a quality defense:

    -----------Comp--Att--Yds--Pct----Y/A--Sack--YdsL--TD--Int

    vs. Pitt:----13----28---184--46.4--6.6---1-----12-----1---1---+1 fumble
    vs. Oak----18----37---248--48.6--6.7---1-----24-----1---2
    vs. NE------22----43---287--51.2--6.7---3-----26-----2---3

Don't get me wrong, I don't want the vikes to go after DA at all, but if I'm given the choice between DA and random QB drafted by the Vikings "brain trust" i'm taking DA 10 times out of 10.
