cant remeber his name but 6'6" 250 who can throw and run and jukes almost as good as AP. But hes a junior so who knows if he'll be out this yr or next.
Cam Newton...he is a run first quarterback and pretty raw as a passer though. Too athletic not to get drafted though.

    Re: 2011 Draft

Never to early to talk draft my friend......

QB - Depends on what happens with TJ this year. McNabb is another option that might be available if there isn't some sort of "Tag" the deadskins can put on him.

My guess is TJ gets a chance and does better than a select few on here believe and is the starter going into the 2011 season with Webb and a kid picked in the 3rd-5th rounds.

DT - I for think this is our biggest worry, pending TJ's performance. We have no 0 technique on the roster to take Phat Pats position. JK has done a nice job filling in, but he is the same age as K-dubb and we already have K-dubbs replacement on the roster in Guion. Evans has played like crap when he has had a chance this year so you can't count him for anything other than a few reps if that.

As with last year, I think you target the best 0 Technique in the draft that is available when we draft in the first and LT in the second.

OL - Specifically LT. If you don't go DT with the first you go LT with the first and then DT with the second.

LB - Leber will not get signed. Based on the staffs track record, he would have already been offered a contract if he was staying. I don't think you need to look high here as Erin seems to be the cat they pull first to step in when Ben came off. Take a kid in the 3rd - 5th and let him develop but not a pressing need.

DE - We are pretty good here I think. The drafting of Everson seems to send the message that Ray will probably be gone and I am not so worried about that spot. Backup/situational guy seems to be Robison as he can fill in at both ends. Bigger concern for me is maybe we need to start looking at a stud that can be ready in a couple of years at RDE if JA doesn't get his act together.

CB - I am of the mind that Griff will come back. That leaves him, Cook and Asher for our primary spots. Go ahead and get a kid in the latter rounds that fits the scheme that you can develop and work into the ST's crew.

S - I like what we have in Husain, Tyrell and Jamarcus but think M-will could be on the outs. Go ahead and keep Frampton as your ST's guy and draft another developmental guy here.

    Again, going on 2 assumptions.......

    1. TJ will be fine or Dnabb comes in.
    2. Rickey Boy will use extra picks to move around a bit to target specific cats in the latter rounds........, here is what I think they will do:

    1. DT/LT (BPA of the two)
    2. LT/DT (BPA of the two)
    3. QB/RDE (BPA of the two)
    4. RDE/QB (BPA of the two)
    5. LB (Sam Linebacker)
    6. CB/S (I don't care which one)
    7. S/CB (I don't care which one)

    Re: 2011 Draft

Thanks for bringing this up. I needed to waste a chunk of my day breaking down the roster. :woohoo:

It is way too difficult to know what ALL of our needs will be by the time the draft rolls around, so I'm going to save my semi-annual draft projections until Spring.

Clearly the Vikings need a QB of the future. Webb could be the guy, but I'm not overly optimistic. Depending on how the season plays out (for every team), we could end up getting one of the top four QBs in the draft. Luck, Locker, Mallett, or Foles.

I like any one of those options over Webb or TJack as of now. Odds are we get Mallett or Foles, both of which would be great consolation prizes. Cam Newton is too unpolished to take high in the draft at this point IMO.

I think Foles in underrated right now playing in AZ. He would be my preference if it came down to he or Mallett. Don't have any specific reason other than Mallett rubs me the wrong way for some reason. I think Foles plays with more of a chip on his shoulder and I think his intangibles are better. Again, JMO.

I pray to god we dont do that. Even if McNabb does end up here next year and stays a good 3-4 years, I still want out 1st Rounder to be spent on a QB. I'm tired of filling this position with retreads. This franchise has been known to get a "quick fix."

    Cunningham
    Mcmahon
    Jeff Jorge
Dan Marino (we were in the hunt to try and bring him in)
    Lord Favre
    Warren Moon

    Re: 2011 Draft

I would be willing to bet that the first pick is used on the offensive line.

Of course this all depends on how far we actually fall by the end of the season. If we are picking in the top 10 we may go after Luck/Locker/Mallet ... but I do not see us picking that high ... still.

I think we pick middle of first round and we go with the biggest baddest OLinmen left at that time.

Ahhhhhhhh my scouting department returns......How ya been my friend?

Quick question, do you really think one of the 1rst rounders (that will be available when we draft) will become an instant starter next year?

Like it or not, we will probably still need a Vet to lead this team next year as it will still be considered a contender. No way you take that type of team and plug a rook in that isn't ready to go.

By the way, here is Kipers has Locker going 1 and Lock 2. Sure is alot to move up to get one of them.

I hear ya, but if you continually draft at the bottom of the draft, none of those guys are gonna be available.

I just don't see this staff using alot of picks to move up just for a QB. They were presented with that option on Cutler during the draft and again after he was in the league for a spell.

Especially when you look at our needs on the DL and OL. Fix that issue and TJ will be fine at the helm.

I could live with that. DL if there isn't a LT available when we do pick.

Hi Marr! I've been good. I've been so busy starting my career that I haven't had much time to post, though I have been doing some reading. Some good takes by a variety of people.

To answer your question I do not think a rookie would come in here and start next year as long as Chilly is still coaching. I think Chilly would convince the FO to sign TJ to a short term contract, maybe 3 years, and he would let TJ start.

What I should have said is I like the potential of the top of the 2011 QB class more than the potential we have on our team right now. I doubt the Vikings move up to get Luck or Locker, especially since we've already give up a pick for Moss. BTW, that doesn't appear to be the most brilliant transaction in Vikings' history.

As I said in another thread, I think this organization needs a fresh start. The drama surrounding this team is creating the most negative vibe I can remember on a week to week basis. The best way to do that? Bring in a new coach with a young QB (to groom) to excite the fan base again.

I'm hoping the Vikings can still turn things around this year, but I'm not confident they will. Chilly is digging his own grave and the desperation is palpable.

IMO Luck > Locker, but Locker has never had a lot of talent around him, so it really is apples to oranges. I don't see the Vikings moving up to grab either anyway, which is why I prefer Foles, who could be available around the time the Vikings pick. Of course the Vikes could really eat shit and be drafting in the top 10 at this rate.

very good point, we havent had a top ten pick since 2007 when we drafted AD. Im not saying we should draft a QB in 2011 no matter what, but we should draft the best player for the position of need in terms of value. we can pick up a QB in another draft such as 2012, etc. But then again, sometimes you do have the option to see what lands in your lap (ex. Aaron Rodgers). We had that happen to us last year with Clausen. We cant say how hes gonna develop since its his first year in the league and hes on a horrible team.
