I'm looking at the list of free agents for next year, and, since I haven't seen a thread on it yet, I figured I'd start one.

I doubt we'll make a big splash this free agency, and I'm not even sure how much cap room we'll have, but if we do sign a big name free agent, I'd be thrilled with any of these:

1.

DE Julius Peppers - Can you imagine a line with Peppers, the Williams Wall, and Allen?
It's just too ridiculous to comprehend.
He'll command a lot of money though, probably too much.

2.
CB Nnamdi Asomugha - Someone else who will command a lot of money.
I know Cedric Griffin has stepped up his game, but this guy is a true shutdown corner.
Oakland will probably franchise him again though.

3.
OT Jordan Gross - Not that I'm giving up on Ryan Cook, but I don't think he'll ever be an elite player.
Jordan Gross has been solid since his rookie year and has finally made his first Pro Bowl.

We get any one of these 3, and I'll be thrilled.
I like building through the draft, but it's difficult to get an immediate impact player with the 32nd pick...

nnamdi is a pretty lowsy tackler.. wouldn't be a very good cover 2 corner.

Peppers would be a great pick if we could get him at a discount in hopes of winning a superbowl as would Gross.

If Birk leaves... which I hope he doesn't, i wouldn't mind having Saturday... Runyon would be a solid pick up as well

Is he a lousy tackler? I feel like we don't really know, being that he's been thrown at under 20 times in 2 years now and man corners don't see much action in run support.

Are you serious? Fucking kidding right? Nnamdi would be a good corner any fucking where. He will be franchised for sure ... no chance they let him get away. He is HANDS DOWN no question the best corner in the league ... and many think the flat out best defensive player in the league. If he was on a decent team he would be in MVP talks ... he really is that good.

A cover 2 defense REQUIRES that you have physical corners that can tackle. It is one of the structures upon which the scheme is built. By comparison Winfield and Griffin both have right around 80 tackles, a good majority of those as we know come in run support. Nnamdi has half that many tackles. Honestly if we pick this guy up all we'd here on this forum is how Winnies not cutting it, or Griffin can't play in nickle coverage... because they wouldn't target him. I don't want to hear any more bitching about our corners. A prime example of CB's playing out of their systems is what happened in oakland this year. They bring in a big time CB, everyone's talking about how great this pass defense is... and boom he blows. Look what happened to Griffin when they started letting him play physical.. he's been a stud recently. Nnamdi is not a cover 2 corner. He might very well be the second coming of Deion, but Deion would have been ran out of minnesota because he couldn't tackle either

Nnamdi actually isn't that bad at tackling

He also plays man to man damn near every play and presses alot

He is very physical.. Not a great tackler.. But gets the job done

He won't be coming here though.. Oak will franchise him.. Just thought id throw in my 2 cents

he has half the tackles bc noone throws on him... and i'm pretty sure you bring in a corner like that, i highly doubt we'd be playing much cover 2 to his side of the field anyway.... you just leave him on an island, and you have an extra man to either drop in the box or double someone else.. with our defense, he'd be an instant upgrade...

so regardless of how good/bad a tackler he is... which i doubt he is a poor tackler.. it wouldn't matter bc a corner like that you dont' need him to tackle... you stick him on the #1 receiver of any team and suddenly it's 9 on 10 and we'd be able to blitz an extra man pretty much at will... not that we'd need to with our D-line!!..

btw, i'd like to bring in TJ who'syurmomma too!!.. he'd be an amazing compliment to BB and our passing game.. stick Sid in the slot and Bwade on the bench where he belongs and our offense would be sick!!!!

Bobby Wade is a pretty good role player... I think he's earned his spot on the field.
