Im hoping that our draft this year will point to that answer. The Vikings are going to have to trade for free agents with these picks.
If we dont, I feel we could be 8-8.
If we get an all pro WR and a decent DE this could mean 11-5!
But I hope we consider McNabb or Cinco or Jarred Allen (KC)
I am not sure if I understand your first two sentences.

Do we use our picks to draft or to sign FA's.
You don't trade for free agents you sign them.
You trade picks to teams with players signed to contracts that you might covet.

Regardless, teams go out and sign quality FA's all the time in the offseason in an effort to fix a hole left open by a poor draft selection or during a rebuilding process without giving up draft picks for players on teams rosters.

Studwells crew will identify candidates at DE, WR, QB, S, CB in that order in the FA world that will fit the scheme being coached by coaching staff.

The coaching staff will bless or say no to those options.

Spielmen will then work with the medical staff, Bryzcheapski and the players agents to see if they are physically able to play and within our
    budget.

After that is done, we get the Vets we need or not Spielman will orchestrate a draft to help fill those holes or add depth as necessary.

This is one of the hardest schedules we have faced in recent years based on won-loss records of the other teams. A much harder schedule than this past year when we went 8-8. So a prediction of 10-6 next year would be a HUGE IMPROVEMENT,
but I'll set the bar high and say we will achieve it!

I dont know we play a lot of good teams.I think the afc south is probably the best division in football team wise.Every team finished above 500 and 3 made the playoffs.I think if we get a wr so people stop putting in 9 man fronts all the time we can be a 10-11 win team.I think we should try getting fitzgerald.

    Has something changed?
That is two times today I read we should go after Fitz.

Although I agree he would bring some much needed talent, isn't he still under contract?

Bears- Until they solve thier QB problems and lack of running we win both

Packers- If they play like they did this year we lose both

Lions- We win both.. Should have this year as well
Falcons- This team is a mess.. We win
Panthers- Tough one.. Can go either way.. I'll lean towards win
Texans- They are an up and coming team.. I think we can win tho
Giants- Loss.. I don't think we can do what we did last year unless Eli is really cursed against us
    Colts- LOSS
Saints- Loss.. With Duece coming back they will be able to run.. Brees will pass all over us
Bucs- Win.. We can shut down Graham and Caddy.. We can stop Garcia just enough
Jags- Loss.. The most underrated team in the league
    Titans- We
    can beat them
Cards- Really are not that good.. We can win

I think we have a shot at 10-6 or so with what we have and if these teams make minimal changes

We win games we shouldn't alot.. And loss ones we should alot though..

Without FA and draft out of the way its hard to predict

But i'll see 9-7.. T-jack will get us into the last wildcard slot in the last week

A preliminary guess would have to be another 6-10 season... but that all depends on our FA moves.
Is that your default answer every year?
I believe you said the same last year, and even dropped it later on.

I expect to see continued improvement.
That, at a minimum means 9-7.
    But I would predict 10-6.
I'm actually surprised you pay that close of attention to my posts. Anywhoo... We had a chance to make the post season and Chilly couldn't find a way to rally the troops. He didn't have them ready to play and he had an ineffective game plan. I hoped for a crappy year this year so Chilly would be fired... however, that didn't happen. Now we have to deal with BC one more year. Sucks.

As most have said... it's impossible to analyze the schedule before the draft, FA, and the whole injury picture is sorted out... my opinion... for Chilly to keep his job, he needs 10 wins, minimum... making the playoffs in week 17 won't be enough... next year is his 3rd year, time for him to show up.

he is but there have been rumors that the cards are wlling to trade him.I mean think about it he would be the perfect fit here he is from minny, he was a ballboy for the vikes.Plus can u even name one wr of the top of your head that we wouldnt have to trade for?The free agent wr class is a joke this year for the exception of bernard nerrian maybe, and i think he is overrated
