Looking at which team was the best in their particular year, the '98 team sticks out to me the most. That loss to the Falcons remains the most bitter one to me, amongst a long string of them to choose from. The Vikings were a much more talented team.
Well if you take it as stated ... most of the players on the 1974 team are either dead or in their late 60s early 70s.

    Title Game: 1998 Vikings 31, 2009 Vikings 26

    Just for shits and giggles:
    1975 Vikings 36, 2004 Vikings 10
    1974 Vikings 32, 2004 Vikings 7
    1975 Vikings 31, 1998 Vikings 13
1998 Vikings 30, 1975 Vikings 14 (just to see ... I got about a 50/50 split when these two play)

Could do this shit all day if I didn't have a job.

And they would still kick the shit out of the team the Vikings fielded last year!

    Not what I was saying.

Let's say you fire up the time machine and put all those teams together at the same place and time and setup a 4 game playoff. If your simply asking which was the better team in their particular year, than the playoff thing is silly.

Now, if you take the 1974 team as great as they were in 1974 and put them against the 2009 team, I say the 2009 team crushes them because of the way the game and the players have evolved. Not a fair contest.

I'll stick with the 2009 team overall based on the question of who wins the playoff between these four teams, although I could see the '98 team giving them a run for their money. Whoever has the ball last kind of game.

Yes ... and your time machine put them all on the same field thing is not silly.

OF COURSE the newer teams would crush the older teams. You HAVE to compare them to the years they played. The 2011 3-13 Vikings would KILL the 1966 Super Bowl Champion Packers if you are just going on the basics. The size and speed of the players is just too great of a contrast.

All that aside ... I think the 1998 and/or 2009 teams are probably the best ones.
