Re: Zeus's FF draft - take your shots!

The Colts bye week will be rough.
Otherwise it seems like it might be hard to do much better than .500 anyway with no true number one "carry the load for the team" running back.

I'm worried because our draft is on the 29th and we just added two more teams to make 12 which makes it rough.
I want to be able to pick up AD but I'm not sure where non-Vikes fans are valuing him and I don't want to reach too much.

    Yes.
Chester was available, but I believe AP to have the potential for bigger fantasy impact.

First 9 picks were all RBs, after I picked Manning, 3 of the 4 picks until my wrap-around at 15 were RBs, as well.
You might be able to pull it off. But I'm always scared of those duo backs in fantasy perspective
So am I, so am I.

Here you go - here's the first 3 rounds, leading up to me picking AP at #10 in round 3.

    Round 1
    1. LaDainian Tomlinson Team Ssnif
    2. Steven Jackson cutthroats
    3. Larry Johnson Alien Invasion
    4. Shaun Alexander kewlarrows
    5. Frank Gore dBeavs Bruisers
    6. Joseph Addai homertime
    7. Brian Westbrook Rough House
    8. Travis Henry Jordi-Colts
    9. Rudi Johnson BoomerSooners
    10. Peyton Manning The Gods of ...
    11. Reggie Bush Bye Week
    12. Laurence Maroney Uncomfortabl...

    Round 2
    1. Willie Parker Uncomfortabl...
    2. Chad Johnson Bye Week
    3. Marvin Harrison The Gods of ...
    4. Ronnie Brown BoomerSooners
    5. Willis McGahee Jordi-Colts
    6. Maurice Jones-Drew Rough House
    7. Edgerrin James homertime
    8. Brandon Jacobs dBeavs Bruisers
    9. Terrell Owens kewlarrows
    10. Clinton Portis Alien Invasion
    11. Cedric Benson cutthroats
    12. Thomas Jones Team Ssnif

    Round 3
    1. Drew Brees Team Ssnif
    2. Jamal Lewis cutthroats
    3. Steve Smith Alien Invasion
    4. Marshawn Lynch kewlarrows
    5. Roy Williams dBeavs Bruisers
    6. Larry Fitzgerald homertime
    7. Carson Palmer Rough House
    8. Tom Brady Jordi-Colts
    9. Torry Holt BoomerSooners
    10. Adrian Peterson The Gods of ...
    11. Antonio Gates Bye Week
    12. T.J. Houshmandzadeh Uncomfortabl...

The next RB picked after I grabbed Barber in the 4th was Cadillac Williams with the 4th pick in the 5th round.
Yes, I know, I let some PurplePride influence my pick there, but I'm honestly fairly satisfied with my RBs.
I have some matchup things to play with in lineups.

I don't need 25 points from a stud RB when I'm going to get 40-combined from Manning and Harrison each week.
10 points from each RB plus solid points from the TE, K & DEF (which is all about matchups) and I'm in every game.

Peyton Manning with the 10th pick instead of a back.
I think I might have taken Willie Parker.
But you did get the top rated QB in the draft and his number one receiver.
I don't think you could do to bad with those 2.

40 combined from Manning and Harrison every week is very generous.
Don't forget they have at least 2 other guys that are just as capable (Addai, Wayne) as having huge games.

Personally I would've taken Maroney and Jones-Drew with your picks... but still, your team looks alright.

Team Ssnif got LT, Thomas Jones and Drew Brees... that is a LOADED team.

Unless Gonzo takes a bite out of Harrison's looks.

They have said they want to go back to the 2004, spread-style offense, which will put more options on the field for Peyton.... That just makes me think Marvin's numbers will dip slightly.

Don't get me wrong, he'll still get you points. But not as many as last year...

Re: Zeus's FF draft - take your shots!

I have always been a fan of the QB-WR combo if you can get an elite one like Manning/Harrison or Palmer/OchoCinco.

I also like getting the combo of QB-RB and I am targeting Bulger/Jackson or LDT/Rivers (If I get pick one or two that is).
    I also wouldn't mind McNabb/Westbrook.
The strategy behind this is that by going QB/RB combo lends more to consistent scoring weeks for your team.
This is key to winning week to week.

Boom or bust guys hurt you because it does you no good to win one week by 100 pts if you lose the next week by 5 and your 30 pt scoring guy scored nothing.
Sure he averages 15 pts/week but if he actually scored 15pts a week you would be 2-0 instead of 1-1

I don't know about Jones, myself.
But Brees and LT is nice, yes.

Our league gives a full 6 points for passing TDs, so looking for 25 points from Manning each week (1 pt/20 yards passing) isn't unreasonable.
We've also got bonus points (5) for 400 yards passing.

    It could be good.

I have never tried such a draft strategy myself, but if your backs do produce it could be good. I'd like to know later in the season how you're doing with this.

It's going to suck for you in the Colts bye week with your first two picks out.

Thanks to PPE for the sig.

Hopefully someone will put a feature tailback up for trade.

I think you might need one.
That is what I thought right away.
All those RBs will probably split time unless the other runner in the tandems get hurt.
Rhodes was a good pick up.
I think he might be the main guy in Oakland when he gets back.
    He is worth a shot.

You have to like Manning to Harrison though.
    ;D

AWZ, I am glad you got AP.
I was being slick in my draft, and I took my 2 full time RBs and 2 WRs first.
I was going to take AP with the 57th pick in the 5th round.
I had him in my queue and the guy before me took him with the 56th pick.
I ended up with Phillip Rivers.
If it wasn't for the highlight reels all week of the spin and run, AP would have been mine.

I really though I could get him in the 5th.
I thought I was going to be slick.
    One spot!
