Re: Your Opinion... Best WR of All Time Thread

I've said this before, Jerry Rice was the best WR, and Randy Moss is/was the most talented WR.

If you could magically put Rice/Moss/Carter on a team in their primes at the same time the other defense would just quit.

Moss has not no place in this discussion.
I realize there are still a lot of Moss lovers out there, but it just dousn't add up.
History will prove this statment as well.

#1 Carter was by far the better reciever during the Moss years.
#2 If Carter douns't make the Hall Of Fame Moss has no place there either.
#3 Moss did well with Carter, he also looks good with Welker.
How did he look with the Raiders's?
#4 Moss was not a team player he was a Me player.
#5 Moss does well in a good system, and failed in a poor system.
#6 Football is a team sport, I love to see a good team player provail and a me player fail. Moss fails....

Yes that hack Randy Moss who has 5 more TDs in 10 years than Carter had in 15.
Yes that hack Randy Moss who will be #2 to Jerry Rice in many categories.
Yes that hack Randy Moss who redefined what a WR could be.

Two years on the worst run franchise in the league that's eaten up many other players does not tarnish what Moss has done.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Chris Carter as a football player, but they are two different receivers.
They both deserve a spot in the hall of fame.
Carter had Legendary hands as opposed to Moss's Elite hands.
Moss was a freak of nature deep threat that nobody could cover, Carter was the disciplined route receiver that could stop on a dime.

Ranking top down is dumb in many ways.
Carter/Moss was a team, and one of the best WR teams in NFL history.
I know because of he age difference it would never happen but if they had played the same years I think it would have been fitting for them to enter the hall in the same year.

Personal feelings aside it's silly to dismiss who Moss is and try to act like he isn't one of the all time great WRs.

Rice.. Randy maybe when it's said and done can be 1.A and 1.B with him

Now- Andre Johnson.. Does everything you can ask a WR do and does it very well

    Based on what?

#2 If Carter douns't make the Hall Of Fame Moss has no place there either.
    They both will, eventually.

#3 Moss did well with Carter, he also looks good with Welker.
How did he look with the Raiders's?
How well did he look with Derrick Alexander, D'Wayne Bates, Marcus Robinson or whatever hack #2 WR we tried to replace Carter with?
    ANSWER:
Just the same, if not better.

#4 Moss was not a team player he was a Me player.
    And Carter wasn't?
    And most great WRs weren't?
Moss wanted to win a Superbowl more than anything and realized it wasn't happening in Minnesota.

#5 Moss does well in a good system, and failed in a poor system.
    Most players would.
What was so great about our system back then?

#6 Football is a team sport, I love to see a good team player provail and a me player fail. Moss fails....
    lol, define "fail"...

Re: Your Opinion... Best WR of All Time Thread

Hard to include Moss in this discussion because he is still playing. Have to wait till his career is over to be consider the best of all time.

If anyone does pick Rice, they are stupid.
    We're bringing purple back.

Re: Your Opinion... Best WR of All Time Thread

To start of with excuse my inability to post the quote things, I am ofl school when it comes to the computer suff.
I will reply to each question though.

#1 Carter by far was the Better reciever?

I don't know the stats and will not look them up.
I did see Moss going down the field cutting back and making many jump ball catches.

I also saw Carter catching balls 5' out of bounds with his toes still in bounds.

    Both are good.
Carter was more impressive to me.
He worked hard every play, he got open, he caught amazing passes.
    Carter was
go to guy when the team needed a conversion.
    Carter tried to mentor Moss.

Moss was not the team player, he was good but he didn't try when he knew the ball wasn't coming to him.
Perhaps he will win a SB with another team and increase his chances of the Hall, I hope not.
Expecially since he is with the Pats.
He can run down the field and jump for the ball and was good at it, i will not debate that.

#2 If Carter dousn't make the Hall Moss has no place their either.

I still back that up, I believe Carter should make it, I don't see Moss's place there.
    Enough said.

#3 Moss did well with Carter, He also looks good with Welker.
How did he look with the Raider's?

    Lost a step.
And really sucked in a poor Raider system.

#4 Moss was not a team player he was a me player.

No need to explain if you are a Vikings fan over 10 years of age this is self evident.

#5 Moss does well in a good system, and failed in a poor system.

No need to debate this, other then saying good reciever's can do well on a poor team just not Moss.
He would rather cry about his team and take a pay cut to go to a wining team(which I have no problem with if it was the Vikings).

#6 Moss was not a team player as a Viking, and even worse on a really bad team in the Raiders.
He keeps his mouth shut with the Pats he thinks he will get a ring their.
    I hope he FAILS.

Re: Your Opinion... Best WR of All Time Thread

Ok.... i have to touch on some of the shit Brewtal says b4 i get to my opinion, because its that annoying.

#2 If Carter dousn't make the Hall Moss has no place their either.

I still back that up, I believe Carter should make it, I don't see Moss's place there.
    Enough said.
You don't see Moss' place in the Hall?
Why? Because when he was like 23 he was immature? Well I guess I can't argue with that, how he acted when he was young is way more important than his maturing and his numbers

#3 Moss did well with Carter, He also looks good with Welker.
How did he look with the Raider's?

    Lost a step.
And really sucked in a poor Raider system.
What constitutes as sucking to you?
Yea, 2006 when he was hurt for a few games, he only put up 553 yards and 3 TDs, but that was also with probably the worst oline in the league with a QB that couldn't get rid of the ball.

In 2005 his first year with the Raiders, here's his numbers, followed by his 2008 stats with the Patriots:

    Raiders
    REC: 60 YRDS: 1005 AVG: 16.8 TD: 8

    1st: 46
    Patriots
    REC: 69 YRDS: 1008 AVG: 14.6 TD: 11
    1st: 46

    But those numbers are terrible.
I mean, any receiver can get 1000 yards easily, just think of the last Vikings to get that.
Oh wait... that was Randy Moss.

#4 Moss was not a team player he was a me player.
Luckily for him you don't get into the Hall as a team then huh?

    K, now that aside....

Because Moss is still in the league, I say Jerry Rice was the best receiver of all time.
When its all said in done, I'm sure I'll switch my vote to Moss, if for no other reason than my man love for him.
Jerry Rice was the appidemy of what a WR is supposed to be.
He ran perfect routes, beat cover to get open, and had great hands.
Yes he had the greatest in the game tossing him the ball, but there's no arguing Jerry was the best at what he did.

Randy Moss had the "Super Freak" athleticism.
At his prime, he was by far the most entertaining player to watch, ever.
Anyone that disagrees with that simply has to type in Randy Moss on youtube and watch a highlight reel of his days as a Viking.
He made catches that realistically should have never been caught, he'd outrun triple coverage jump a foot higher than the defender and catch the ball one handed.
He was (in his prime) unarguable the most naturally talented player to ever touch the field.
    That being said...

    As of now:

    Best ever: Jerry Rice
Best now: Push - I honestly can't choose between Andre Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald.
Moss, Owens, Steve Smith, etc all make a push for this, but I think right now its between those two.
Johnson and Fitzgerald are both incredibly talented, but because they've spent most their careers on bottom barrel teams, they haven't gotten much exposure, so I don't have enough to choose which is better.
If a gun was put to my head and I had to pick, I'd go with Fitz

Re: Your Opinion... Best WR of All Time Thread

    All Time:
    Don Hutson
    Current:
    Randy Moss

Hutson created things that are still being used today, still holds records ,and held records for around 40 years after his quit playing.
Additionally, he played defense and special teams and accomplished all of these records in an era with no passing attacks and shorter seasons.

Moss rewrote history two years ago, and played well enough this year despite having a quarterback who hadn't started since high school.
Switch him out with Fitzgerald or Johnson and he'd have been just as dominating as ever, and probably more.

Re: Your Opinion... Best WR of All Time Thread

    ever: Rice
    now: I'm not sure.
I would rather wait until they play out their careers.
If I had to go on attitude, work ethic, and production I would tend to go with Fitzgerald.
