Yeah - Jerry set the previous record of 22 in only 12 games in 1987 with only 65 receptions.
So - one of every 3 catches was a TD.
    Wow.

    Wow.
    Just wow.
In 98 Moss caught 69 passes, 17 for TD's. That's 1 in 4, and he was a rookie, and he didn't have the greatest QB of all time throwing to him.
10 years later in 07 he caught 23td on 98 passes, or 1 in 4.25. Of course he might have had the greatest QB of all time throwing to him then.
Jerry Rice never had double digit TD's in any of his final 10 seasons, or since Steve Young retired.

For there careers rice took 1 in 7.9 catches for TD's. Moss has taken 1 in 6.2 catches for TD's.

In 1998, Moss did have one of the top-10 WRs of all-time across from him.
With all due respect to John Taylor, he's no Cris Carter.
If teams were going to double someone in 1998, it wasn't going to be the rookie.

In 2007, as you noted, Moss had Tom Brady throwing to him.
And he had a WR on the other side who caught 112 passes.

In the end, 3 Super Bowls for Rice, 0 for Randy.

I also don't feel stupid for saying that it's not an open and closed case on this discussion, as Hutson should be in the conversation without getting laughed at.
Hutson, Alworth and Rice are probably my personal top-3.
So many people on here think football began in 1998.

I also think Charlie Joiner, Harold Carmichael, Cris Carter and Paul Warfield deserve consideration.

But, in the end, the accomplishments of Jerry Rice top all of those.

so then I guess by your logic, you would much rather have Trent Dilfer or Brad Johnson play for you than someone like Drew Brees, Carson Palmer, Chad Pennington, Jay Cutler, Phillip Rivers, Mcnabb, or Hasslebeck?

Brees, Palmer, Pennington, Cutler, Rivers, McNabb and Hasslebeck have not led their team to the big prize, have they?
McNabb and Hasslebeck have actually failed in the SB to win it.

So - if we're talking purely hypotheticals and I can get Brad Johnson or Trent Dilfer in their primes, then, yes, I would probably take those guys over any of the non-winners you have listed.

I've watched enough sports to know that there are those who are winners (someone like Roger Federer, for example) and those who might win on occasion, but who cannot be counted on to come through in the big moment (someone like Andy Roddick, for example).

so you think by sticking Dilfer in his prime on the Vikings, that automatically makes us legitimate superbowl contenders?
    Over guys like Brees?
